Test Procedure
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Place mode selector switch in recirculation/bi-level position. Using scan tool, read, record and erase BCM DTCs. Cycle ignition switch off, then back on. Using scan tool, select SENSOR DISPLAY, and select A/C EBL voltage. If reading is less than 0.5 volt, go to next step. If reading is 0.5 volt or more, go to step 7.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect HVAC control panel C1 connector. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, monitor A/C EBL voltage. If reading is less than 3 volts, go to next step. If reading is 3 volts or more, replace HVAC control panel. After repairs, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and HVAC control panel C1 connector terminal No. 5 (Dark Blue/Orange wire). See Figure. If reading is 10 k/ohms or more, go to next step. If reading is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/Orange wire between HVAC control panel and BCM connectors. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair is complete, go to step 8.
- Measure resistance between HVAC control panel C1 connector terminal No. 1 (Dark Blue/Gray wire) and terminal No. 8 (Yellow/Orange wire). See Figure. If reading is 10 k/ohms or more, go to next step. If reading is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short between Dark Blue/Gray wire and Yellow/Orange wire between HVAC control panel C1 and BCM C2 connectors. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair is complete, go to step 8.
- There is not other possible cause for fault, except BCM. Perform a visual inspection of all related components and connectors. Attempt to duplicate original fault or customer complaint. If no other faults are present, replace and reprogram BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repair is complete, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, read, record and erase BCM DTCs. Cycle ignition switch off, then on. Place mode selector switch in recirculation/bi-level position. Ensure rear defogger switch is off. Start engine and allow to idle. Using scan tool, read A/C EBL switch and MODE switch voltage values. While in each mode selector position, compare readings with approximate voltage value listed. See SELECTOR SWITCH VALUES table. If both readings are about the same in each mode selector position, go to next step. If readings were not as specified, replace HVAC control panel. After repair, go to 8.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, erase BCM DTCs. Start engine and allow to idle. Turn on blower motor from blower switch. Monitor scan tool for DTCs, while turning mode selector switch in each position, and repeat several times. If scan tool displays A/C HEAD, EBL INPUT SHORTED TO GROUND, replace and program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If A/C HEAD, EBL INPUT SHORTED TO GROUND is not displayed, check for an intermittent short to ground in related wiring harnesses and connectors. Repair intermittent condition as necessary. After repairs, go to next step.
- After repair is complete, perform calibration test. See CALIBRATION TEST - HVAC DOOR MOTORS under ADJUSTMENTS. Perform verification test. See BODY VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 under VERIFICATION TESTS.
