Automatic (While Moving) Door Locks Inoperative

  1. Connect scan tool to DLC. DLC is located above hood release handle on driver's kick panel. Select BODY CONTROL MODULE on scan tool. If BUS OPERATIONAL is displayed, go to next step. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to BATTERY POWER TO MODULE DISCONNECT; IGNITION VOLTAGE TOO LOW; NO RESPONSE FROM BCM (BAT PWR DISCON'D); BATTERY POWER TO MODULE  under COMMUNICATIONS. If scan tool displays any other message, go to appropriate bus failure procedure under COMMUNICATIONS .
  2. Using scan tool, read auto door lock status under miscellaneous. If scan tool displays AUTO DOOR LOCKS ARE ENABLED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display AUTO DOOR LOCKS ARE ENABLED, use scan tool to enable auto door locks.
  3. Unlock doors and drive vehicle to a speed above 15 MPH. If doors did not lock when vehicle reached 15 MPH, go to next step. If doors locked when vehicle reached 15 MPH, test is complete.
  4. Ensure all doors are closed. Using scan tool, read door ajar status. If scan tool does not display DOOR AJAR: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays DOOR AJAR: CLOSED, go to SHORTED PASSENGER DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT (SEBRING CONVERTIBLE)  or SHORTED PASSENGER DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT (EXCEPT SEBRING CONVERTIBLE)  under DOOR AJAR.
  5. Ensure all doors are closed. Using scan tool, read left front door ajar status. If scan tool does not display LF DOOR AJAR: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays LF DOOR AJAR: CLOSED, go to SHORTED DRIVER DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT (SEBRING CONVERTIBLE)  or SHORTED DRIVER DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT (EXCEPT SEBRING CONVERTIBLE)  under DOOR AJAR.
  6. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select SYSTEM TEST. If scan tool does not display POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE: INACTIVE ON BUS, go to next step. If scan tool displays POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE: INACTIVE ON BUS, go to PCM MESSAGE NOT RECEIVED; NO RESPONSE FROM PCM  under COMMUNICATIONS.
  7. Using scan tool, read ENGINE INFO and observe Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) while depressing throttle. If TPS sensor percentage increases as throttle is opened, go to next step. If TP percentage does not increase as throttle is opened, TPS sensor is faulty. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  8. Raise and properly support vehicle drive wheels. Close all doors, start engine, apply brakes and put transmission into drive. Using scan tool, read ENGINE INFO and observe Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) when wheels rotate. Release brakes and carefully open throttle. If MPH increased as throttle is opened slightly for 15 seconds, go to next step. If MPH did not increase as throttle is opened slightly for 15 seconds, VSS is faulty. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  9. Unlock doors and drive vehicle to a speed above 15 MPH. If doors did not lock when vehicle reached 15 MPH, replace Body Control Module (BCM). See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If doors locked when vehicle reached 15 MPH, test is complete.
