Shorted Passenger Door Ajar Circuit (Sebring Convertible)

  1. Disconnect passenger's door ajar switch and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Using scan tool, read door ajar switch status. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR: CLOSED, replace passenger's door ajar switch.
  2. Disconnect Seat Belt Control Module (SBCM) connector. See Figure. Using scan tool, read door ajar switch status. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR: CLOSED, replace SBCM.
  3. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 20-pin connector C5 at junction block and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Using scan tool, read door ajar switch status. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR: CLOSED, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR: CLOSED, repair short to ground in Tan/Pink wire between passenger's door ajar switch and BCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  4. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and BCM 20-pin connector C5 terminal No. 17 (Tan/Pink wire). See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan/Pink wire.

  1. Disconnect right front door ajar switch and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Using scan tool, read door ajar switch status. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace right front door ajar switch.
  2. Disconnect right rear door ajar switch and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Using scan tool, read door ajar switch status. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace right rear door ajar switch.
  3. Disconnect left rear door ajar switch and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Using scan tool, read door ajar switch status. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR SW: CLOSED, replace left rear ajar switch.
  4. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 20-pin connector C5 at junction block and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Using scan tool, read door ajar switch status. If scan tool displays PASS DOOR AJAR: CLOSED, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If scan tool does not display PASS DOOR AJAR: CLOSED, go to next step.
  5. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and BCM 20-pin connector C5 terminal No. 16 (Tan/Orange wire). See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan/Orange wire between right front door ajar switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  6. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and BCM 20-pin connector C5 terminal No. 17 (Tan/Pink wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan/Orange wire between right rear door ajar switch and BCM. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan/Red wire between left rear door ajar switch and BCM.
