Test 52A - Manual Shift Overheat (AUTOSTICK Vehicles Only - DTC 71)

NOTE: Perform TEST 2A before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS . Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.

DTC 71 can be caused by engine overheating. Check for the following conditions;
- Low coolant level.
- Restricted engine cooling system.
- Inoperative radiator cooling fan.
- Excessive engine load.

Transmission overheat can also set DTC 71. Check for the following conditions;

Restricted transmission cooling.
Extremely high or low fluid level.
Extended vehicle operation in incorrect gear.
1. 2) Using scan tool, erase DTCs. On a cold vehicle, compare ambient temperature with transmission temperature using scan tool. Start vehicle and run until normal operating temperature is reached. Monitor engine and transmission temperature.
2. 3) DTC 71 is set when engine temperature exceeds 255°F (124°C) and transmission temperature exceeds 275°F (135°C). Information is not supplied to diagnose cause if DTC 71 is reset.
