Removal Procedure
Refer to Diesel/Gasoline Vapors Warning .
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Fuel Pressure Relief
- Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf)
- Disable the high voltage system. High Voltage Disabling
- Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE-47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)
- Drain the drive motor generator power inverter module cooling system. Drive Motor Generator Power Inverter Module Cooling System Draining and Filling
- Air Cleaner Assembly - Remove - Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
- Air Cleaner Outlet Duct - Remove - Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement
Intake Manifold Cover (1) - Remove - Intake Manifold Cover Replacement
- Fuel Feed Front Pipe @ Fuel Injection Pump - Disconnect - Fuel Feed Front Pipe Replacement
- Evaporative Emission Canister Vent Front Pipe @ Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Solenoid Valve - Disconnect - Evaporative Emission Front Pipe Replacement
Heater Inlet Hose (2) @ Water Outlet - Disconnect - Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LKN)
Heater Coolant Pump Hose - Outlet (2) @ Heater Coolant Pump - Disconnect - Heater Coolant Pump Hose Replacement (Inlet) , or Heater Coolant Pump Hose Replacement (Outlet) , or Heater Coolant Pump Hose Replacement (Pump Inlet LKN) , or Heater Coolant Pump Hose Replacement (Pump Outlet LKN)
Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose (2) @ Radiator Surge Tank - Disconnect - Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose Replacement (LKN Radiator Surge Tank to Water Outlet to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooler Outlet Pipe)
Range Selector Lever Cable (1) @ Transmission - Disconnect - Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement
Radiator Inlet Hose (2) @ Water Outlet - Disconnect - Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LKN)
Radiator Outlet Hose (2) @ Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing - Disconnect - Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LKN)
Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose (1) @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Disconnect - Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement (LKN)
Air Conditioning Evaporator Connector Hose/Tube and Compressor Hose (2) @ Air Conditioning Condenser and Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube - Disconnect - Air Conditioning Evaporator Connector Hose/Tube and Compressor Hose Replacement (LKN)
- Engine Control Module Bracket - Remove - Engine Control Module Bracket Replacement
- Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block - Remove - Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block Replacement (LKN)
- Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (1) - Disconnect [2x]
Wiring Harness Connector (1) @ Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block - Remove
- Wiring Harness Connector (2) - Disconnect [2x]
- Ground Cable Nut (3) - Remove
- Engine Wiring Harness Clip Nut (4) - Remove
- Engine Wiring Harness (5) - Reposition
- Drive Motor Power Inverter Module Coolant Pipe - Remove - Drive Motor Power Inverter Module Coolant Pipe Replacement (LKN)
- Raise the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Front Wheelhouse Liner - Left Side - Remove - FRONT WHEELHOUSE LINER REPLACEMENT - RIGHT SIDE (LKN)
- NOTE:
Cover or plug all open transmission fluid cooler pipe connection points to help avoid any accidental contamination.
Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe (2) @ Transmission - Remove - Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe Replacement (LKN With MKE)
- NOTE:
Cover or plug all open transmission fluid cooler pipe connection points to help avoid any accidental contamination.
Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe (2) @ Transmission - Remove - Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe Replacement (LKN With MKE)
- Exhaust Front Pipe - Remove - Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LKN)
- NOTE:
Remove both sides. Left side shown, right side similar.
Stabilizer Shaft Link (2) @ Stabilizer Shaft - Disconnect [2x]
Front Wheel Drive Shaft-Left Side (1) - Remove - Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side (MKE)
Front Wheel Drive Shaft-Right Side (1) - Remove - Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Right Side (LKN)
- NOTE:
Reposition the generator control module coolant pump and bracket away from the frame after removing bolts.
Generator Control Module Coolant Pump Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove - Generator Control Module Coolant Pump Replacement
Intermediate Steering Shaft @ Steering Gear - Disconnect - Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
- Position an engine support table under the powertrain assembly.
- Blocks of wood can be used between the front of the frame and the oil pan to table and between the transmission and frame in order to level the powertrain during the removal.
- With the table positioned, fully raise the table to contact with the powertrain assembly.
Transmission Mount Bolt (4) Remove and DISCARD [3x] - Transmission Mount Replacement
Engine Mount Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [3x] - Engine Mount Replacement
- Remove the frame to body bolts. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LKN)
- Disconnect remaining electrical connectors and hoses as necessary.
- Carefully lower the engine table and raise the body on the hoist until the engine/transaxle and frame are separated from the vehicle.
- Separate the engine from the transmission. Transmission Replacement
- Install the engine to a suitable engine stand.
- Transfer parts as needed.
Reposition the wiring harness to the top of the engine.
During the powertrain removal support the vehicle body by placing a jack at the rear of the vehicle.
Remove ONLY the body to frame bolts as the powertrain will be removed while still bolted to the frame.
Ensure that all hoses, harnesses and pipes clear when raising the body.
