Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vacuum and Fill)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static) .
  4. Evacuate the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-134a)Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf) .
  5. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement .
  6. Remove the front compartment fuse block. Refer to Front Compartment Fuse Block Replacement .

    NOTE:

    The engine wiring harness must be disconnected in order to remove the engine.

    Remove the engine wiring harness ground (1).

    Disconnect the main engine wiring harness (1).

  9. Remove the main engine wiring harness connector (2) from the fuse block housing then secure the harness on top of the engine.
  10. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  11. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement .

    Remove the intake manifold cover (1). Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement .

    Disconnect the vacuum hose (1). Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

  14. Disconnect the fuel line. Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

    Disconnect the EVAP hose (1). Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

    Disconnect the radiator outlet hose (1). Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LCV) .

    Remove the heater inlet hose (1). Refer to Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LCV) .

  18. Remove the heater outlet hose. Refer to Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LCV)Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LCV Heater Outlet Pipe to Auxiliary Water Pump) .

    Remove the air conditioning compressor and condenser hose (1). Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement (LCV) .

    Disconnect the tie rods (1) from the steering knuckles. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .

    Disconnect the stabilizer links (1) from the stabilizer shaft. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .

  22. Disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  23. Remove the exhaust system. Refer to Front Pipe Replacement (LCV) .
  24. Disconnect the lower control arms from the steering knuckles. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement .
  25. Remove the left wheel drive shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side .
  26. Remove the intermediate drive shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Replacement (LFX with M7W)Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Replacement (LCV with MHG) .
    27. NOTE:

    During the powertrain removal support the vehicle body by placing a jack at the rear of the vehicle.

  27. Position an engine support table under the powertrain assembly.
  28. Blocks of wood can be used between the front of the frame and the oil pan to table in order to level the powertrain during the removal.
  29. With the table positioned, fully raise the table to contact with the powertrain assembly.

    Remove the engine mount (1). Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .

  31. Remove the transmission mount. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement - Left Side .
  32. Remove the frame to body bolts. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement .
  33. Carefully lower the engine table and raise the body on the hoist until the engine/transaxle and frame are separated from the vehicle.
  34. Separate the engine from the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
  35. Install the engine to a suitable engine stand.
