Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (without KL9)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (with KL9) .
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)
  3. Fuel Feed Front Pipe (2) - Remove Fuel Feed Front Pipe Replacement

  4. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 
  5. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf)
  6. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement
  7. Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable (2) - Disconnect Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement

  17. Air Conditioning Compressor Hose - Remove Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement (LTG)
  18. Disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle. (3) Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement

  19. Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Nut (1) - Remove Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (M3E)

    NOTE: Cover or plug all open transmission fluid cooler pipe connection points to help avoid any accidental contamination.
  20. Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe (2) @ Transmission - Remove
  21. Front Stabilizer Shaft Link (1) @ Front Stabilizer Shaft - Separate Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement

    NOTE: Disconnect the left and right sides. Left side shown, right side similar.
  22. Remove the intermediate shaft pinch bolt (1), then disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement

  23. Exhaust Front Pipe - Remove Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LTG)

  25. Front Wheel Drive Shaft - Right Side - Remove Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Right Side (LTG)
  26. Position an engine support table under the powertrain assembly.
    NOTE: During the powertrain removal support the vehicle body by placing a jack at the rear of the vehicle.
  27. Blocks of wood can be used between the front of the frame and the oil pan to table in order to level the powertrain during the removal.
  28. With the table positioned, fully raise the table to contact with the powertrain assembly.
  29. Engine Mount Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [2x] - Engine Mount Replacement

  30. Transmission Mount Bolt (3) Remove and DISCARD [4x] - Transmission Mount Replacement (Left Side)

  31. Remove the frame to body bolts. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement
    NOTE: Remove ONLY the body to frame bolts as the powertrain will be removed while still bolted to the frame.
  32. Disconnect electrical connectors as necessary.
  33. Carefully lower the engine table and raise the body on the hoist until the engine/transaxle and frame are separated from the vehicle.
  34. Separate the engine from the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Replacement
  35. Install the engine to a suitable engine stand.
