Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Protect the fender with covers.
    NOTE: If the engine timing belt is being replaced according to the maintenance schedule the timing belt tensioner, idler pulley and water pump must be replaced too.
  2. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection »Disconnect
  3. Engine Sight Shield Replacement »Remove
  4. Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement »Remove
  5. Engine Mount Bracket Replacement »Remove
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Set the cylinder one to TDC:

    NOTE:
    • Check condition of timing belt for signs of damage to help determine the root cause of the failure.
    • The timing belt cannot be reused if the timing belt has any failure described in and/or if any sprocket, idler, tensioner or the water pump is damaged.
    • Avoid the contact with cooling fluid and oil, it will damage the timing belt. A damaged timing belt can not be reused.
    1. Remove the camshaft housing closure bolt.
    2. Install the EN-46789  locking tool (1) in the camshaft housing.
    3. Turn the engine clockwise until the EN-46789  locking tool audibly engages.
  8. Oil Pump Bolt (1) »Remove

  9. Install the fixing tool stud (1) of the EN-46788  fixing tool.

  10. Lock the crankshaft, using the EN-46788  fixing tool (1).

  11. Mark the position of the timing belt tensioner indicator (2), see arrows in picture, use a pen (1) or a suitable tool.

    NOTE: If the timing belt will be reused, mark the position of the timing belt tensioner indicator, as shown in picture before you loosen any bolt.
  12. Loosen the camshaft sprocket (1).

    1. Install the EN-47634  holding tool (2) to the camshaft sprocket (1).
    2. Hold up with the EN-956-1  extension (3) and loosen the camshaft sprocket bolt.
  13. Remove the EN-47634  holding tool and the EN-956-1  extension.
  14. Release tension to the timing belt tensioner.

  15. Loosen the timing belt tensioner bolt (2).
  16. Remove the EN-46788  fixing tool.
  17. Remove the timing belt (1).
    NOTE:
    • Do not damage the timing belt. A damaged timing belt can not be reused.
    • If the timing belt will be reused, mark the direction of timing belt rotation.
