WARNING:
Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
CAUTION:
Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced.
CAUTION:
If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced.
Preliminary Procedures
- Disable the roof rail SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
- Remove the front assist handle. Refer to Front Assist Handle Replacement
.
- Remove the windshield garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement
.
- Remove the sunshade assembly and the sunshade retainers. Refer to Sunshade Replacement
.
- Remove the roof console assembly. Refer to Roof Console Replacement
.
- Remove the front door sill plate. Refer to Front Side Door Sill Trim Plate Replacement

- Remove the rear door sill plate. Refer to Rear Side Door Sill Trim Plate Replacement (Extended Wheelbase)
, Rear Side Door Sill Trim Plate Replacement (Standard Wheelbase)

- Remove the center pillar lower molding. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Garnish Molding Replacement

- Remove the center pillar upper molding. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Replacement

- Remove the lock pillar molding. Refer to Body Lock Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Standard Wheelbase)

- Remove the back body opening molding. Refer to Rear Door Upper Garnish Molding Replacement

- Remove the body rear corner upper molding. Refer to Body Rear Corner Garnish Molding Replacement - Right Side
, and Body Rear Corner Garnish Molding Replacement - Left Side (With E61)

- Remove the coat hooks. Refer to Coat Hook Replacement

- Remove the map/dome lamp. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement

- Remove the rear headliner trim panel assembly. Refer to Headlining Rear Trim Panel Replacement (Extended Wheelbase) .
- Place the rear seats in the stowed position.
- Remove the front seat headrest.

Headliner Trim Panel Assembly Procedure
- Prior to removal, note the routing of the wire harness to aid in reassembly and to ensure proper installation.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors.
TIP:
When installing a new headliner, tape any unused connector to the headliner with a high adhesive tape. |
