Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust Muffler with Resonator, Exhaust, and Tail Pipe Replacement (H-Pipe) or Exhaust Muffler with Resonator, Exhaust, and Tail Pipe Replacement (Vehicle Service) .
  3. Remove both front catalytic converters. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LLT) or Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (L99/LS3) and Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LLT) or Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (L99/LS3) .
  4. Remove the propeller shaft from the vehicle. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  5. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
  6. Remove the transmission support. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .
  7. Lower the transmission assembly to gain access to the top of the transmission.
  8. Disconnect the shift control assembly from the transmission. Refer to Shift Control Assembly Replacement .
  9. Disconnect the following electrical connectors:
    • Transmission fluid temperature (TFT) sensor
    • Backup lamp switch
    • Vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
    • Reverse lockout solenoid
    • Gear select/skip shift solenoid
  10. Disconnect the clutch hydraulic hose.

  11. Remove the transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners (1, 4).
  12. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
