Power Roof Inoperative

Power Roof Inoperative Diagnostic Test

1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Power Roof 
2 Verify that the power roof is inoperative.
Does the power roof operate normally?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3 
3 Does the endgate window operate normally? Go to Step 4  Go to Endgate Power Window Inoperative in Body Rear End
4 Is the power roof inoperative from both the overhead console switch and the endgate key cylinder switch? Go to Step 6  Go to Step 5 
5 Is the power roof inoperative from the overhead console switch only? Go to Step 7  Go to Step 8

  1. Open the endgate window.
  2. Using a scan tool attempt to open and close the power roof. Refer to Scan Tool Output Controls .
Does the power roof open and close using the scan tool commands?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 11

  1. Observe the Power Roof Switch parameter in the Power Roof Module Input/Output data list.
  2. Operate the overhead console power roof switch in the open and close positions.
Does the scan tool display the correct switch parameter in relation to the actual switch state?
Go to Step 19  Go to Step 9

  1. Observe the Endgate Key Cylinder parameter in the Endgate Module Input/Output data list.
  2. Operate the endgate key cylinder in both directions.
At any time does the scan tool display the switch parameter as Invalid?
Go to Step 14  Go to Step 10

  1. Disconnect the power roof module connector C1.
  2. Test for continuity through the overhead console power roof switch from the low reference circuit terminal to the open and close circuit terminals in the harness connector.
  3. Operate the power roof switch in the open and close positions while testing the corresponding circuit.
Does the power roof switch have continuity in both positions?
Go to Step 19  Go to Step 13

  1. Disconnect the endgate module connector C2.
  2. Test for continuity through the endgate key cylinder switch from the low reference circuit terminal to the up and down circuit terminals in the harness connector.
  3. Operate the key cylinder switch in the up and down positions while testing the corresponding circuit.
Does the endgate key cylinder switch have continuity in both positions?
Go to Step 20  Go to Step 15

  1. Disconnect the power roof motor connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the power roof motor open and close control circuit terminals in the harness connector.
  3. Operate the power roof switch to the Open and Close positions.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 16  Go to Step 12 
12 Test the power roof motor control circuits for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 26  Go to Step 19 
13 Test the overhead console power roof switch signal circuits for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 26  Go to Step 17 
14 Test the endgate key cylinder switch signal circuits for a short to ground or short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 26  Go to Step 20 
15 Test the endgate key cylinder switch signal circuits for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 26  Go to Step 18 
16 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the power roof motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

17 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the overhead console power roof switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

18 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the endgate key cylinder switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?

19 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the power roof module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?

20 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the endgate module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Replace the power roof motor. Refer to Moveable Roof Panel Motor/Actuator Replacement .
  2. Perform the power roof relearn procedure. Refer to Power Roof Relearn .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 26  -
22 Replace the power roof switch. Refer to Switch Assembly Replacement - Endgate Window, Midgate Window and Rear Moveable Roof - Overhead Console in Body Rear End.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 26  -
23 Replace the endgate key cylinder switch. Refer to Lock Cylinder Replacement - Endgate in Body Rear End.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 26  -
24 Replace the power roof module. Refer to Moveable Roof Panel Control Module Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 26  -
25 Replace the endgate module. Refer to Liftgate Control Module Replacement and to Liftgate Control Module Programming in Body Rear End.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 26  -
26 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 2
