Test I: Too Cold In Vehicle

NOTE: Definition: The temperature cannot be adjusted, or the heating is insufficient.
  1. Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Place mode switch in any position except OFF. Place blower switch in each speed position. If blower motor operates in any speed position, go to next step. If blower motor does not operate in any speed position, go to TEST C: BLOWER MOTOR INOPERATIVE .
  3. If blower motor operates correctly in each speed position, go to next step. If blower motor does not operate correctly in each speed position, go to TEST D: BLOWER MOTOR MALFUNCTION .
  4. Start engine. Place blower switch in maximum speed position. Place mode switch in recirculation position. If recirculation door moves to the recirculation position, go to next step. If recirculation door does not move to the recirculation position, go to VACUUM CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  5. Place HVAC control assembly in OFF position. If A/C compressor operates, go to TEST E: COMPRESSOR CLUTCH DOES NOT DISENGAGE . If A/C compressor does not operate, go to next step.
  6. Check engine cooling system for low coolant level, loose radiator hose or heater hose, kinked radiator hose or heater hose, missing radiator cap pressure seal, and leaking radiator cap. If any of these conditions were found, repair as necessary and go to step  11. If none of these conditions were found, go to next step.
  7. Perform heating performance diagnostic. See HEATING PERFORMANCE DIAGNOSTIC  under PERFORMANCE TESTS. If condition was corrected, go to step  11. If no problem exists, go to next step.
  8. Check air temperature door and linkage for broken or binding linkages or air temperature door, an obstruction that prevents air temperature door from operating within its full range of motion, and missing or misaligned air temperature door seals. If any of these conditions were found, repair as necessary and go to step  11. If none of these conditions were found, go to next step.
  9. Check harness connector at HVAC control assembly for a poor connection. If a poor connection was found, repair as necessary and go to step  11. If a poor connection was not found, go to next step.
  10. Replace HVAC control assembly. See HVAC CONTROL ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If replacement is complete, go to next step.
  11. Operate system to verify repair. If the condition was corrected, system is okay. If the condition was not corrected, go to step  2.
