Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Cadillac CT4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Note the new transmission unique number (TUN).
  2. WARNING:

    Use care when cleaning the clutch hub. The clutch hub may have sharp edges and can cause personal injury if contact is made. Wear protective gloves to avoid personal injury.

  3. Clean the clutch hub and the input shaft from any debris and contaminates with a lint-free towel.

    CAUTION:

    Applying too much or the wrong type of grease on the transmission input shaft may cause damage, clutch slippage or failure. Always apply the correct type of grease. Never apply more grease than is necessary to coat the transmission input shaft with a very thin film of grease.

    Use a clean flat brush (1) to apply very light coating of multi-purpose grease to input shaft until the metal is only shiny. No visible clumps of grease are permissible regardless of size.

    CAUTION:

    Ensure that no grease remains on the lead surface of the transmission input shaft. Clean the lead surface of the transmission input shaft prior to the assembly of the transmission to the engine. Failure to maintain a clean surface may cause clutch slippage or failure.

    Clean the entire lead surface of the input shaft with a NEW, lint-free towel (1).

  6. Raise the transmission to the engine.

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Install the three upper transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners (1, 2, 3) and tighten. Fastener Specifications

    Install the right lower transmission clutch housing to engine fastener (1) and tighten. Fastener Specifications

    Install the lower transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners (1, 2) and tighten. Fastener Specifications

    Install the left side transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners (1, 2) and tighten. Fastener Specifications

    Connect the wiring harness retainers (1) to the transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners.

    NOTE:

    Securely support the drivetrain and front suspension cradle with an adjustable jack.

    Tilt engine and transmission up and tighten four front cradle bolts (1), and four rear cradle bolts (2). Fastener Specifications

  13. NOTE:

    Before installing the manual transmission control, ensure that the shift shaft it is clean of dirt or lubricants.

  14. Install the manual transmission control to the transmission.

    Install the right manual transmission control lever base pin (2).

    Install the manual transmission control lever base pin (2).

    Transmission Mount (2) - Install

  20. NOTE:

    For proper bolt alignment, loosely install all mount bolts prior to tightening to specifications.

  25. Remove the jack stand.

    Position the propeller shaft (1) in the vehicle.

    If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
    4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
  28. Install the 2 propeller shaft bearing support bolts (1) and tighten. Fastener Specifications

    Align the reference mark (3) between the propeller shaft flange (1) and the rear axle pinion flange (2).

    If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.

  31. Install the 3 rear propeller shaft nuts (2) and 3 the rear propeller shaft bolts (1).
  32. Tighten the 3 the rear propeller shaft bolts (1). Fastener Specifications

    Align the reference mark (2) between the propeller shaft flange (3) and the output flange (1) of the transmission.

  35. Install the 3 front propeller shaft nuts (1) and the 3 front propeller shaft bolts (2).
  36. Tighten the 3 front propeller shaft bolts (1). Fastener Specifications

    Floor Panel Number 2 Cross Bar Reinforcement (2) - Install

  42. With the aid of an assistant, install the exhaust muffler (1).

    Rear Tire Front Air Deflector- Left Side and Right Side (2) - Install [2x]

    Pull up and outward on the tabs on the closeout boot (3) to clear the body structure.

  75. Install the 4 manual transmission control bracket bolts (1, 2) securing the shift control assembly to the tunnel reinforcement, then tighten. Fastener Specifications

    Install the manual transmission control lever lower boot (1) to the manual transmission control (2).

  77. Connect the electrical connector.

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.

    4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
  81. Position the transmission control lever boot and knob assembly (1, 2) on the manual transmission control lever.
  82. Tighten the manual transmission control lever knob bolt (3). Fastener Specifications

    Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) - Install

    If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:

    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  86. Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Install the mid intermediate steering shaft to the intermediate steering shaft by sliding the upper portion of the intermediate shaft (1) upward.

  88. If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:
    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
    4. Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    Engine Front Splash Shield (3) - Install

  98. Engine Front Splash Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
  99. Engine Front Splash Shield Retainer (2) - Install
  100. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
  101. Uncap the fittings and unplug the holes of the transmission.

    Connect the lower slave cylinder hose (2) to the slave cylinder.

  103. Install the hydraulic clutch hose/pipe retaining clip (1) to the clutch slave cylinder.

    Connect the wiring harness clips (5) from the transmission.

  105. Connect the electrical connectors. (1, 2, 3, 4)

    Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe (2) - Install

  107. Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe (2) - Connect
  108. Retainer Clip (1) - Engage [2x]
  109. Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Bracket Bolt (3) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  110. Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Bolt (4) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  111. Bleed to hydraulic clutch system. Hydraulic Clutch System Bleeding
  112. Check the transmission fluid level. Transmission Fluid Level Inspection 
  113. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
  114. Remove the device used to prevent steering column rotation.
  115. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks.
