Version A: Removing tie rod
- Position the flattened side (1) of the special tool 2 459 457 on the flattened side of the rack (2) .
- Tighten down screws (3).
TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATION

NOTE:
The following steps are only required for work on the right-hand track rod.
- When using special tool 0 493 653 (32 3 160) , determine dimension (A) and enlarge it to 30 mm.
- The, protect the special tool 0 493 653 (32 3 160) against corrosion
.
- Provide counter support to special tool 2 459 457
using standard tool (1).
Make sure that the tools for counter supporting the rack and loosening the tie rod have the same length.
- Loosen the tie rod (2) with the appropriate special tool 0 493 653 (32 3 160) or 2 287 009 in the arrow direction and remove it.
Version B: Removing tie rod

To avoid damage to the steering shaft and its bearing, the rack must be positioned in the steering gear as far as possible.

- Determine dimension (A) on special tool 0 496 483 (32 3 220) and increase it to 30 mm .
- After use, protect special tool 0 496 483 (32 3 220) against corrosion

- Release the tie rod (1) with the special tool 0 496 483 (32 3 220) and remove .
