- Make sure that there is no charger connected to the jump start terminal in the engine compartment.
- Detach battery ground lead from battery.
- For auxiliary batteries: Detach battery minus cables from all auxiliary batteries.

- Perform all work only on components that have cooled down.

- When working on the fuel system, make sure the workstation has sufficient ventilation, e.g., by means of extraction.
- Tightly seal off open lines and connections; collect any leakage fuel directly at the point of exit.
- No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.

On releasing high pressure line, fuel may emerge at high speed
.

- Wear suitable personal protective equipment.
- Before performing any installation work, allow cooling system to cool down to less than 40°C.

The special tool 83 30 2 410 670 is used for depressing the valves from the second cylinder for a tension-free disassembly or installation of the exhaust camshaft. Due to technical modifications in the S58B30T0, the thrust pieces 83 30 2 468 424 are mounted on the existing special tool.

- Keep special tool 0 495 741 (11 8 552)
at hand.
- Keep special tool 2 410 670
at hand.
- Have the special tool 2 468 424
ready.
- Prepare special tools.
Number Description 11 8 552 Knurled screws 2 410 670 Stand 2 468 424 Synchronizing key - Position the special tool 2 410 670 at cylinder 2 and hand-tighten it with the special tool 0 495 741 (11 8 552) from the set of special tools 0 495 739 (11 8 550) .
- Screw in both roller cam followers (1) on 2nd cylinder with the spindle nut of the special tool 2 410 670 up to the limit position.
- Make sure the special tool 2 468 424
is positioned correctly on the roller cam follower (1)
.
- Feed out and remove the roller tappet (1)
from the marked
area of the high pressure pump bracket.
- Pay attention to the numbering on the exhaust camshaft bearing cap.
The exhaust camshaft bearing caps are numbered from (A1) to (A2) .
The exhaust camshaft bearing cap (A) is a thrust bearing.
- When removing the high-pressure pump bracket (1)
and (2)
, it should be noted that the high pressure pump bracket (1)
and (2)
are numbered in the marked
area.
- Release screws in the sequence (14) to (1) in half turns .
- Remove high pressure pump bracket and all exhaust camshaft bearing cap.
- Place all exhaust camshaft bearing cap in order in special tool 0 495 105 (11 4 480) .
- Feed the exhaust camshaft (1) out to the top and remove.
