Replacing the foam cushion for the seat surface of front seat

Only US/Canadian version of front passenger seat with seat occupancy mat (CIS):
The seat occupancy mat is bonded to the entire surface of the upholstery and can only be replaced together with the upholstery.
If the seat occupancy mat or cushion is defective, both parts must always be replaced together.
Full operability can only be guaranteed with Original BMW replacement parts.
After installing the seat cover, enable the seat occupancy mat using the BMW programming system via the appropriate service function.
The heating mat is glued to the foam pad and cannot be dismantled nondestructively.
When replacing the heating mat, a new one must always be installed with a new foam pad.
Removing the fan for the seat surface on the front seat
- Unlock and disconnect plug connections (1).NOTE: For a better overview the removed condition is shown here.
- Push the heating mat (1) and the climate control mat (2) to the side.
- Unclip the fan (3).
- Replace the foam seat, heating mat and, if necessary, climate-control mat.

The components are bonded together and cannot be disassembled without destroying them.

Clip in the disassembled fan (1) into the new foam seat (2).
Replacing the sensor mat for the seat occupancy detection of the (front) passenger seat

The seat occupancy mat is glued to the foam pad and cannot be dismantled non-destructively.
When replacing the seat occupancy mat, a new one must always be installed with a new foam pad. - Replace the seat occupancy mat (1).
Parts: Seat occupancy mat
- Position the seat occupancy mat (1) on the foam cushion (2) and align it.
- Bond the seat occupancy mat (1).
- Equipment specification with seat air conditioning
If necessary, trim the climate-control mat (1) to fit the foam pad (2).
Secure the climate-control mat (1) to the hook and loop tape (3).
- Equipment specification with seat heating
Position the heating mats (1) on the new foam seat and align them.
Bond the heating mats (1) with the foam seat in the areas (2).

Connect connectors (1) and lock.
Feed the wiring harness into the foam seat.
