Replacing coil spring

- Secure the coil spring with special tool 2 213 022 (31 3 340) .
- Use special tool as per Owner's Manual and always observe the safety instructions.

NOTE:
Description is for left component only. Procedure on the right side is identical.
Preliminary work
- Refer to REMOVING THE REAR LEFT WHEEL .
- Refer to REMOVING THE COVER OF THE CAMBER CONTROL ARM .
- Refer to DISCONNECTING THE PLUG CONNECTIONS FOR THE DYNAMIC DAMPING CONTROL .
- Refer to RELEASING THE SPRING STRUT FROM THE WHEEL CARRIER .
- Refer to OPENING CONVERTIBLE TOP COMPARTMENT LID .
- Refer to REMOVING SPRING STRUT .
- Refer to PREPARING THE SPRING TENSIONER .
- Refer to TENSIONING THE COIL SPRING .
- Refer to REMOVING THE SPRING STRUT SUPPORT BEARING .
- Pull the auxiliary damper with the protective tube (1) off the piston rod.
- Feed out and remove the spring strut shock absorber (2) with the spring pad (3) from the tensioned coil spring.
- Release the coil spring (1) until dimension (A) is reached.
Dimension (A) =160 mm
- Replace the coil spring.
Parts: Coil spring
- The top flattened coil spring end (1) touches the spring strut support bearing.
- Adjust the special tool 2 213 022 (31 3 340)
to dimension (A).
Dimension (A) =160 mm
- Position the lower coil spring end (1) as shown.
- Tension the coil spring (1) until dimension (A) is reached.
Dimension (A) = 65 mm
Dimension (A) must not be undershot .
- Check the auxiliary damper with protective tube (1) and spring pad (2) on suspension strut shock absorber (3), if necessary, replace it.
- Feed the suspension strut shock absorber (2) with the spring pad (3) into the coil spring.
- Push the auxiliary damper with protective tube (1) up onto the piston rod.
