Installing rear differential

NOTE: Perform the steps on the right and left side.

Fold open the assembly protection ring (1).

Raise the rear differential (1) somewhat with the special tool 0 496 009 (33 5 200) .
Insert the left-hand output shaft (3) into the rear differential (1).
Turn the rear differential (1) with the special tool 0 496 009 (33 5 200) to the right and insert the right output shaft (2) into the rear differential (1).

NOTE: Perform the steps on the right and left side.

Pull on the tab of the installation protection ring (1) until one of the two predetermined breaking points breaks.
Pull out and dispose of the installation protection ring (1).

Lift the rear differential (1) using special tools 0 496 009 (33 5 200) and 0 490 133 (00 2 030) and position on the rear axle support.
Make sure that the special tool 0 496 080 (33 5 206) is not pinched between the rear differential (1) and the dust plate of an output shaft.

Insert screw (1).

Replace nut (1).

Feed through the nut (1).

Pilot the screws (1) by hand and tighten.

TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATION

Rear differential to rear axle carrier, front
M12 Replace screw.	tightening torque	100 Nm

M14 Replace nut.	Tightening torque .	175 Nm

Loosen and remove the tensioning strap 0 496 080 (33 5 206) from the rear differential (1) .
Lower the special tools 0 490 133 (00 2 030) and 0 496 009 (33 5 200) and set them aside .
