Replacing radial shaft seal for drive flange on rear axle final drive
Special tools required:

Failure to comply with this instruction will result in serious damage to the rear axle final drive!
Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove the HOLDER (ADAPTER) ON THE FRONT REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL .
Removal:
Remove retaining clip (1) and sunk nut (2) with diaphragm seal.
Mark position of flange nut (1) to bevel pinion (2).
Warm up flange nut using a hot air blower.
Attention : Do not heat beyond the dimension required to open the nut! Do not use naked flames (e.g. welders) to heat up the component!
Loosen the flange nut using special tool 33 5 050 and 33 5 070 and a 3/4" 500 Nm torque wrench in counter-clockwise direction. For this purpose, counter the bevel pinion using special tools 33 5 060/33 5 090 2 456 244 33 5 070 (installed versions may vary).
In vehicles from 07/2016 (only M4 GTS from 03/2016), use tool 2 456 244.
Pull out radial shaft seal with special tool 00 5 010.
Installation:
Clean bevel pinion thoroughly to remove remnants of screw locking agent.
Coat the sealing lips of the new shaft seal with final drive oil.
Drive in radial shaft seal with special tool 2 298 610.
Check dust plate for damage, replace if necessary.
Grease the insert collar (1) of the flange nut using grease Castrol Optitemp HAT LF1, BMW part number 83 23 0 417 754.
Apply a thin coating of grease to shaded area (2) of flange nut.
Coat at least four thread turns of the flange nut with "Drei Bond adhesive type 1385".
Tighten down the flange nut (1) until the marker points are aligned.
Required follow-up work:
- Install the HOLDER (ADAPTER) ON THE FRONT REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL .
- Check the OIL LEVEL in the rear axle differential, correct if required.
