Replacing left or right radial shaft seal for output shaft on rear axle differential

Special tools required:

00 5 0 10
33 1 308
2 457 051
2 413 037

Necessary preliminary work:

Remove OUTPUT SHAFT on left or right.

Removal:

Pull out the radial shaft seal with the special tools 00 5 010 and 33 1 308.

Installation:

Coat housing sheet metal flange and sealing lips of new radial shaft seal with approved differential oil: BMW rear differential fluid MSP/A , BMW part number 83 22 2 365 988

Drive new radial shaft seal into limit position with special tool 2 457 051 and 2 413 037.

CAUTION: The assembly protection (1) must absolutely be mounted before the output shaft is installed.
Non-compliance leads to damage on the radial shaft seal and/or leaks on the rear axle differential!
Assembly protection (1) protects the radial shaft seal when installing the output shaft!

Required follow-up work:

Install OUTPUT SHAFT .
Check rear axle differential OIL LEVEL , correct if necessary.
Carry out wheel alignment procedure. Refer to CARRY OUT KINEMATICS DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM WHEEL ALIGNMENT WITH VEHICLE LOAD UP TO DESIGN POSITION or KINEMATICS DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM WHEEL ALIGNMENT WITH RIDE HEIGHT MEASUREMENT WITHOUT LOADING THE VEHICLE .
