Replacing both electrical controller drives (wastegate valve) (S55 engine)
Necessary preliminary work:
- Drain COOLANT .
- Remove STIFFENING PLATE .
- Remove charge air duct. Refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING CHARGE AIR DUCT OF CYLINDER 4-6 and REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING THE CHARGE AIR DUCT FOR CYLINDERS 1-3 .
Release screws (1).
Heat shield (2) is loose and does not need to be removed.
Release screw (1).
Partially release both coolant lines.
Disconnect plug connection (1) on the wastegate valve controller.
Attention!
No lateral forces must act on the wastegate valve controller linkage Risk of damage to the drive .
Release lock pin (1).
Loosen all screws (1) on the wastegate valve controller cylinder 1-3.
Remove controller drive with linkage from exhaust turbocharger.
Attention!
No lateral forces must act on the wastegate valve controller linkage Risk of damage to the drive .
Release lock pin (1).
Loosen all screws (1) on the wastegate valve controller cylinder 4-6.
Release screw (1) with the aid of a wobble joint (2).
Remove controller drive with linkage from exhaust turbocharger.
Attention!
Two open-end spanners must be used to loosen the adjusting nut and lock nut.
Slacken locknut (2).
Remove connecting linkage (1).
Remove adjusting nut.
Installation:
Attention!
Two open-end spanners must be used to tighten the adjusting nut and lock nut.
Screw on new adjusting nut (3).
Position connecting linkage (1).
Join new lock nut (2).
Attention!
No lateral forces must act on the wastegate valve controller linkage Risk of damage to the drive .
Attach linkage to wastegate lever and secure with lock pin (1).
Position wastegate valve controller cylinder 1-3; join all screws (1).
The wastegate valve controller may only be bolted on after all screws (1) have been fitted 11 65 3AZ .
Position wastegate valve controller cylinder 4-6, join all screws (1).
The wastegate valve controller may only be bolted on after all screws (1) nave been fitted 11 65 3AZ .
Attention!
The adjusting nuts (1 and 2) may only countered by using two open-end spanners.
Using just one open-end spanner poses risk of damage to the electrical controller drive.
For purposes of clarity, schematic diagram shows removed exhaust turbocharger.
Installation note:
Shorten adjustment travel (-).
Increase adjustment travel (+).
To ensure a reliable setting of the adjustment travel, both adjusting nuts must be marked with a colored mark.
One full turn of the adjusting nut corresponds to an adjustment travel of 0.75 mm.
Example 1:
Actual value measured by the diagnostic function: +0.75 mm .
Required correction: +0.75 mm: : 0.75 mm = +1.0 turns.
Adjust the linkage setting correction by turning nut (1) through 1.0 turns in + direction before resetting nut (2) and countering with 6 Nm.
Example 2:
Actual value measured by the diagnostic function: -1.5 mm .
Required correction: -1.5 mm: : 0.75 mm = -2 turns.
Adjust the linkage setting correction by turning nut (2) through 2 turns in - direction before resetting nut (1) and countering with 6 Nm.
Check basic setting again using diagnosis.
Attention!
Two open-end spanners must be used to tighten the adjusting nut and lock nut.
Align connecting linkage (1) centrally with slight play.
Tighten lock nut (2) 11 65 4AZ .
Assemble engine.
