Replacing center roof shell (M4 Convertible)

NOTE: Center roof shell must only be removed if front and rear roof shells are installed.

Never remove roof shells together.

Connect BATTERY CHARGER .

Installation note:

Microencapsulated screws (Loctite) must be replaced and may not be reused
Screw connection must be completed within 20 minutes (start of curing)
Microencapsulated screws must not be retightened
Thread of nut must be cleaned beforehand in event of repeated use

Move soft top into position shown.

Pull off water drain hose (1) from valve (2).

Mark tensioning strap (1).

Carefully open retainer (2) without damaging the tensioning strap.

Detach tensioning strap (1) from plastic guide (3).

Installation note:

Attach tensioning strap (1) by new clamp (2) at marks.

Feed tension cable (1) out of O-ring.

Lower HEADLINING FOR ROOF SHELL .
(Only release from the front and middle roof shell)
Remove HINGE COVER .

Feed tensioning strap (1) out of holder (3) on frame.

Open holder (see arrow in illustration) and remove water drain hose (2).

Unclip metal retainer (1) from frame.

Feed water drain hose (2) out of frame.

Release cable clip (1) from roof shell.

Remove clamp (1) on left and right.

Secure soft top in SERVICE POSITION :

NOTE: A second person will be needed to help with the following work steps for removing the roof shell in the middle.

IMPORTANT: To prevent barrel screws from twisting while they are being released, counter support barrel screws with a flat open-end spanner.

Mark screws (1) and release.

Tightening torque 54 37 05AZ .

Remove roof shell.

Replacement only:

Remove CENTER ROOF SHELL GASKET .

Remove SLIDER HOUSING .

Release nuts (1) on roof hinge bracket.

Installation note:

Replace nuts.

Screw on bracket loosely.

Bracket should still be able to be slid in order to center itself.

Close soft top.

Screw down rear nut and open soft top.

Screw down front nut.

Tightening torque 54 37 10AZ .

Measure height of barrel screws for roof shell screw fastening points and carry over to new roof shell.

Installation note:

Insert barrel screws with Loctite.

Release screw (1).

Release screw (2) on opposite side.

Remove water drain hose (3).

Installation note:

Replace water drain hose.

Release holder (1) on left/right from clips (2) and remove.

Installation note:

Felt (3) must be bonded on left/right.
