Removing and installing/replacing left or right slider housing to center roof shell (M4 Convertible)

Special tools required: 

• 2 360 047

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove FRONT ROOFLINER .
• Lower CENTER ROOFLINER .

Installation note: 

• Microencapsulated screws (Loctite) must be replaced and may not  be reused
• Screw connection must be completed within 20 mins. (start of curing)
• Microencapsulated screws must not  be retightened
• Thread of nut must be cleaned beforehand in event of repeated use

Removal: 

Move soft top into service position.

Move soft top so that angle of the hinges is not  ≤90°.

Support rear roof shell to soft top cover with suitable auxiliary materials.

Auxiliary materials must lie over wide area and if possible over entire length.

Rear roof shell is supported by auxiliary materials on soft top cover.

Roof shells block each other.

Release screws (1) and remove slider housing (2).

Installation: 

Remove barrel screws (1) and insert new barrel screws (1).

Screw in new barrel screws (1) as far as limit position.

Close soft top completely.

Soft top must be completely locked.

The soft top is completely locked as soon as the windows start to move during the closing action.

Pull front roof shell (1) down and mount special tool 2 360 047 A on bolt (2).

Pull front roof shell (1) down and slot special tool 2 360 047 A completely onto bolt (2).

Special tool 2 360 047 A must be positioned at barrel screws in area (A).

Fix special tool 2 360 047 A on bolt (2) by knurled screw (3).

Unscrew barrel screw (1) with special tool 2 360 047 C until gap dimension between front roof shell and center roof shell is correctly set.

Gap dimension: 

1. Roof shell, front
2. Roof shell, rear

Place feeler gauge 0.1 mm between barrel screws (1) and special tool 2 360 047 A.

Unscrew barrel screws (1) with special tool 2 360 047 C until contacting on feeler gauge.

As soon as the barrel screw (1) is contacting on the feeler gauge, the feeler gauge unscrews.

Once both barrel screws (1) are correctly set, remove special tool 2 360 047 A.

Attach special tool 2 360 047 B in slider housing (1).

Make sure sleeves are correctly seated on slider housing (1).

Hand-tighten knurled screw (2).

Counter support (3) must be turned fully down.

Move hardtop towards open position until bolt (1) is fully retracted.

Apply slider housing (2) with special tool 2 360 047 B on roof shell and feed in screws (3).

It must still be possible to move the slider housing (2).

By tapping lightly on special tool 2 360 047 B using a plastic hammer, adjust the slider housing (1) to dimension (A).

(A) = 16 mm

Turn screw (2) by hand until contacting on slider housing (1).

Turn screw (2) half a turn more.

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 54 37 09AZ .

Turn screw (2) fully back.

Slacken knurled screw (3) and remove special tool 2 360 047 B.

Check installation position: 

When the bolt (1) is retracted into the slider housing (2), the front roller (3) must also rotate as the retraction movement comes to an end.

Required follow-up work: 

• Install FRONT ROOFLINER .
• Install CENTER ROOFLINER .
• Check window glass setting and adjust as necessary. Refer to ADJUSTING REAR LEFT OR RIGHT SIDE WINDOW (M4)
