Replacing The Tailgate

CAUTION: Shutting hood or trunk lid .
Injury hazard!

Support hood/trunk lid in fully open position with the aid of a suitable device

Release rubber grommets (1) and feed through together with associated wiring harnesses (2) inwards.

Detach rubber grommet (1).
Thread out the connector (2) from the tailgate.

Release the wiring harness (1) at the marked points (arrows).
Detach rubber grommet (2).
Feed wiring harness (1) and wiring harness (2) out of the tailgate.

Unlock tabs (1).
Remove acoustic sensor (2) and unlock and disconnect the associated plug connection.

Detach wiring harness (1) at the marked positions (arrows) and set it aside.

- Mask those working areas at risk with yellow plastic adhesive tape.
- Remove and install heavy or bulky components with the aid of another person/other persons.

Unscrew the screws (1) and remove the tailgate.
Replace tailgate.
Parts: Tailgate
Position tailgate on the tailgate hinges.

Tighten the screws (1).

TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

Trunk lid to the hinge
Hexagon screw M8 Tightening torque

Carefully close tailgate and check for contact between vehicle bodies and if necessary, reposition the tailgate.
Thread the connector (2) into the tailgate.
Install rubber grommet (1). Ensure the correct installation while doing so (watertightness).

Feed wiring harness (1) and wiring harness (2) into the tailgate.
Fasten wiring harness (1) at the marked points (arrows).
Install grommet (3). Ensure the correct installation while doing so (watertightness).

Feed through rubber grommets (1) together with associated wiring harnesses (2) outwards.
Install the rubber grommets (1). Ensure the correct installation while doing so (watertightness).

Secure the wiring harness (1) at the marked points (arrows).

Connect and lock connector for acoustic transmitter (2).
Install acoustic transmitter (2) and clip in tabs (1).

Remount light bulkhead (1) on both sides.

Remount the seal plug (1) and (2).
Remount cover (3).

Remount the expansion nuts (1).

Loosen screw (1).
Release ball pin (2) and remove limit position (3).
Locate the limit position (3) on the tailgate.

Tighten screw (1) and ball pin (2).

TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

Limit position to tailgate
M8 screw Tightening torque	28 Nm
Ball pin M8 Tightening torque	28 Nm
