51 16 366 Removing and installing/replacing right glove box with housing

Special tools required: 

• 2 298 505 

When working on trim panel components, make sure that visible surfaces are not scratched or damaged (e.g. by sharp-edged tools).

Necessary preliminary work: 

• Remove SIDE PANEL ON INSTRUMENT PANEL ON RIGHT 
• Remove INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM, BOTTOM LEFT 
• For vehicles with knee airbag: Remove AIRBAG MODULE FOR FRONT PASSENGER KNEE PROTECTION

Removal: 

Loosen and remove the trim (1) from the clamps (2) towards the bottom.

Release screw (1).

Release screws (1).

Remove glove box (2) inwards and disconnect associated plug connections.

Installation: 

When replacing, swap over the following parts: 

• GLOVE BOX DAMPER 
• GLOVEBOX LIGHT

In case of replacement with lock barrel equipment specification): 

Unclip normally closed contact (1) using special tool 2 298 505  .

If required, unclip the normally closed contact (1) additionally from the other side.

Clip in normally closed contact (1).

Prepare new LOCK BARREL (2) .

Connect ignition key in the lock barrel (2) clip into the glove compartment.

Install glove box (2) and connect the corresponding plug connections.

Tighten down screws (1).

Tighten screw (1).

Install the trim (1) towards the top and engage with the clamps (2).

Required follow-up work: 

• Install INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM, BOTTOM RIGHT 
• Install SIDE PANEL ON INSTRUMENT PANEL, RIGHT 

  For vehicles with knee airbag: INSTALL AIRBAG MODULE FOR PASSENGER KNEE PROTECTION
