24 00 037 Removing And Installing Automatic Transmission (GA8P70H) N55_Hybrid

Special tools required: 

IMPORTANT: To prevent heavy damage to the engine block, the protruding thread of the transmission bolts absolutely must be checked for damage and corrosion before removal  .
If there are signs of corrosion, the rust must be removed and the threads must be cleaned before removal  .
Replace rusted, damaged screws.

Failure to comply with this instruction will result in serious damage to the engine block and transmission.

WARNING: High-voltage system - danger to life!
WARNING: The following points must be strictly observed prior to starting work: 
IMPORTANT:
  • Do not let skin come in contact with transmission oil and do not inhale transmission oil vapors.
  • Wear protective gloves.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation.
IMPORTANT: After completing work:
Adjusting the rotor position sensor is required.
Check TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL .
Use only the approved transmission oil .

Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the automatic transmission!

NOTE: Observe notes on UNLOCKING AND DISCONNECTING different types of connectors in hybrid cars.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Release cable (1) from holders.

Remove upper part of cable duct (1).

Release all cables (1) from cable channel.

Release cable box (1) from bracket.

Set cable (2) and cable box (1) aside.

Remove INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING .

Unclamp both transmission cooling lines (1) with special tool 13 3 010 .

IMPORTANT: The cooling lines (1) are located on the transmission under the splash board.

Release hose clamp (1) of both cooling hoses.

Disconnect cooling hoses from lines.

Installation note: 

Tie cooling hoses up to prevent them from being pinched between engine and transmission when installing the transmission.

Release positive battery cable (1) from clamps.

Remove heat shields (2).

Release cover (1) from positive battery cable.

Release nut (1) from positive battery cable (2).

Tightening torque 12 36 5AZ .

Release positive battery cable.

Disconnect connector (1).

Release cable (2) from clamp (3).

Release screws (1) from high-voltage connector (2).

Disconnect connector (2).

Tightening torque 12 36 2AZ .

Release clamp (1) from holder.

Unfasten screws (2).

Release guide (3) with high-voltage cable from transmission.

Disconnect signal connector (1).

Release screw (1).

Release cable (2).

Remove cover (1).

Unscrew nuts (1).

Tightening torque 18 20 1AZ .

Unfasten screws (2).

Tightening torque, 24 00 1AZ .

Remove exhaust bracket (3).

Crank engine at vibration damper in direction of rotation until nut (1) is visible in recess.

Release all 6 nuts of electrical machine.

Tightening torque 24 40 2AZ .

Release screw (1) on left and right of axle.

Remove cover plate (2).

Remove bolt (3) on left and right of axle.

Tightening torque 31 10 1AZ .

Screw on special tool 11 8 910 .

Adjust distance (1) between cross bar and facing using nuts (2).

Nuts (2) must be screwed down in opposite direction after distance has been adjusted.

IMPORTANT: Distance:

N55: 38.5 mm.

Supporting transmission: 

Support transmission with special tools:

23 4 050 , 00 2 030 .

Secure transmission to mounting with tensioning strap (1).

Repair work is are described in GEARBOX HOLDER .

After completion of work, check transmission fluid level.

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque: 22 32 3AZ .

Slacken nut (1).

Release grounding cable (2) from transmission mounting bracket.

Tightening torque: 24 11 7AZ .

Slacken nut (1).

Release grounding cables (2) from body.

Tightening torque: 24 11 7AZ .

Release screw (1).

Disconnect hydraulic lines (2) to transmission oil cooler.

Tightening torque: 17 22 1AZ .

Installation note: 

Replace sealing rings.

Keep to installation sequence.

Release screw (1).

Release hydraulic lines from holder (2).

Release screw (1).

Release wiring harness (2) from transmission.

Release screws.

Installation note: 

Observe screw fastening sequence  without fail.

Tightening torque: 24 00 1AZ .

Installation note: 

Tighten down screws/bolts to specified torque.

Special angle-of-rotation tool 00 9 120 with magnet 00 9 130

Attach to vehicle underbody and screw down in accordance with angle of rotation.

Tightening torque: 24 00 1AZ .

Installation note: 

Bore hole (1) of drive plate must be accessible from recess on engine oil sump. Check fitting sleeves (2...3) for correct seating.

Replace damaged fitting sleeves.

Installation note: 

Rotate electrical machine until bore hole in electrical machine is flush with bore hole in drive plate.

Flange automatic transmission to engine.

After finishing work:

Bleed cooling circuit.

Connect BMW diagnosis system:

  1. Service functions.
  2. Power train.
  3. Hybrid car.
  4. Electrical machine electronics.
  5. Motor position sensor adjustment.
