63 21 183 Removing and installing/replacing left or right tail light (on rear lid)

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

NOTE: For purposes of clarity, rear lid trim panel is shown removed.

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Release nut (2) and remove retaining bar (3) from rear light (4).

Tightening torque 63 21 3AZ  , see 63 21 REAR LIGHT UNIT .

Feed out rear light (4) in direction of arrow and remove in outward direction from rear lid (5).

Remove socket housing  , see 63 21 055 Replacing a socket housing for left or right rear light (on side panel) .

Installation: 

Check sealing frame for rear light  for damage and replace if necessary, see 63 21 101 Replacing sealing frame for left or right rear light (on side panel) .

Retaining lugs (6) of rear light (4) must not be damaged or missing.

Position retaining lugs (6) of rear light (4) exactly over side edge of rear lid (5).

Make sure retaining bar (3) is correctly seated on rear lid (5).
