11 12 729 Checking Cylinder Head For Leaks (N73)

Special Tools Required:
- 11 9 430
- 11 9 432
Necessary Preliminary Tasks:
- Remove left cylinder head. Refer to 11 12 105 REMOVING AND INSTALLING LEFT CYLINDER HEAD (N73) .
- Remove right cylinder head. Refer to 11 12 106 REMOVING AND INSTALLING RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD (N73) .
- Remove left bearing bracket with inlet camshaft and intermediate shaft. Refer to 11 37 012 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT INTERMEDIATE LEVERS (N73) .
- Remove right bearing bracket with inlet camshaft and intermediate shaft. Refer to 11 37 014 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING RIGHT INTERMEDIATE LEVERS (N73) .
- Remove left exhaust camshaft. Refer to 11 31 036 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT EXHAUST CAMSHAFT (N73) .
- Remove right exhaust camshaft. Refer to 11 31 038 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING RIGHT EXHAUST CAMSHAFT (N73) .
- Remove all valves. Refer to 11 34 560 REPLACING ALL VALVE STEM SEALS (N73) .
Place special tool 11 9 430 on cylinder head sealing faces.
To secure special tool 11 9 430, secure with the old cylinder head bolts and the supplied nuts.
Remove vent fitting on cylinder head.
Screw in special tool 11 9 432.
Connect pressure hose to pressure gauge.
Test pressure: 4.5 bar.
Immerse cylinder head in a water bath.
Check cylinder head for escaping air (cracks).
NOTE:
If the necessary, add cleaning agent to water bath.
NOTE:
Replace cylinder head in event of cracking in water or oil area.
Assemble engine in reverse sequence to its disassembly.
