18 40 010 Removing And Installing/Replacing Left Exhaust Manifold (N73)

WARNING: Scalding hazard! Only perform these tasks on an engine that has cooled down.

Necessary Preliminary Tasks:

Remove left oxygen control sensor. Refer to 11 78 530 REPLACING LEFT LAMBDA OXYGEN CONTROL SENSOR (N73) .
Remove left oxygen monitor sensor. Refer to 11 78 540 REPLACING LEFT LAMBDA OXYGEN MONITOR SENSOR (N73) .
Remove complete exhaust system. Refer to 18 00 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COMPLETE EXHAUST SYSTEM (N73) .
Secure engine in installation position with special tool. Refer to 11 00 ... SECURING ENGINE IN INSTALLATION POSITION WITH SPECIAL TOOL (N73) .
Lower front axle support.
Release lower universal joint of steering spindle. 32 31 211 REPLACING UNIVERSAL JOINT FOR LOWER SECTION OF STEERING SPINDLE .

For purposes of clarity, nuts are shown on removed engine.

Release nuts on exhaust manifold from below.

Remove exhaust manifold towards bottom and pull out towards rear.

Illustrations show N62.

Installation:

Replace seals.

Seal beads faces the exhaust manifold.

Coat threads with copper paste.

Replace nuts.

Tightening torque, refer to 11 62 1AZ in ENGINE - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Assemble exhaust system.

Installation:

Check exhaust system for leaks.

Check function of DME.
