Driveshaft, Removing And Installing, AUDI A1 QUATTRO: Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Tightening specifications. Refer to DRIVESHAFT ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW, AUDI A1 .
Install all marked parts in their original position.
-- Inspect the shaft seal heat shield -4- on the bevel box for damages and replace if necessary.
- Always replace the O-ring -1- and locking ring -2- on the output shaft/shaft bevel gear -3-. Refer toFigure.
- Lubricate the splines on the output shaft/shaft bevel gear with Grease for Clutch Disc Shaft Splines: G 000 100 .
-- Install the driveshaft onto the bevel box output shaft/shaft bevel gear and give it a forceful shove towards the front end.
-- At the same time, a second technician presses the engine/transmission assembly toward the rear against the driveshaft until the locking ring engages on the output shaft/shaft bevel gear in the driveshaft.
- The driveshaft must stop at the bevel box and must not be able to be removed by hand from the bevel box.
-- Attach the heat shield -2- and the lock washers to the body.
-- Install the combi bolts -1- for the center bearing but do not tighten them.
Risk of damaging the sealing ring -arrow- in driveshaft flange.
- Slide the driveshaft horizontally onto the centering pins for the rear final drive.
If seal is damaged, driveshaft must be replaced.
-- Attach to the driveshaft to the rear final drive making sure the markings -arrows- are lined up.
-- Tighten the driveshaft bolts to the rear final drive.
-- Align the center bearing in the oblong holes so that neither the driveshaft nor the center bearing are under stress.
-- Tighten the center bearing combi bolts -1-.
-- Install the subframe with steering gear. Refer to SUBFRAME WITH STEERING GEAR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the rear section of the exhaust system and align it so it is free of tension. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation II, As of 01.2018), OVERVIEW - MUFFLER (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation III, As Of 12.2017), or OVERVIEW - MUFFLER (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation II, As of 09.2016) .
-- Install the fuel tank. Refer to INSTALLING .
-- Install the tunnel crossmember. Refer to UNDERBODY TRIM PANEL .
-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to Overview - Noise Insulation .
