Lower Timing Chain Cover, Removing And Installing: Installing

-- Remove old sealant form the grooves in the timing chain cover as well as from the sealing surfaces.

CAUTION:

Risk of contaminating the lubricating system.

Cover open parts of engine.

WARNING:

Danger of eye injury.

Wear protective eyewear.

-- Remove the remaining sealant on the left timing chains and cylinder block covers, for example with a rotating plastic brush.

-- Clean any oil or grease off the sealing surfaces.

-- Clean the threaded holes in the cylinder block for connecting the engine and transmission using a thread tap before installing the transmission.

NOTE:

Note the expiration date of the sealing compound.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 1.5 mm).

-- Insert the sealing piece -arrows-.

CAUTION:

The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.

Do not apply sealant bead thicker than specified.

-- Apply sealant beads to the clean sealing surface of the lower timing chains cover as shown in the illustration.

The sealant beads -1, 2 and 4- must be 1.5 to 2.0 mm thick.
The bead of sealant around the holes -3 and 5- must be 1.5 to 2.0 mm thick.

NOTE: The timing chains cover must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the sealant

-- Check whether the 2 alignment bushings are present in cylinder block, install if necessary.

-- Install the lower timing chain cover and tighten the bolts, refer to Lower Timing Chain Cover - Tightening Specification and Sequence: Vehicles with Aluminum Oil Pan Upper Section .

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

-- Install the crankshaft seal on the transmission side, refer to CRANKSHAFT SEAL, REPLACING, TRANSMISSION SIDE .

-- Install the upper timing chain covers, refer to Installing .

-- Install the left exhaust manifold, refer to LEFT EXHAUST MANIFOLD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the right exhaust manifold, refer to RIGHT EXHAUST MANIFOLD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the turbocharger bracket.

Vehicles with a turbocharger, refer to OVERVIEW - TURBOCHARGER, VEHICLES WITH TURBOCHARGER .

-- Install turbocharger:

Vehicles with a turbocharger, refer to TURBOCHARGER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH A TURBOCHARGER .

-- Install the drive plate, refer to DRIVE PLATE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Clean the threaded holes in the cylinder block for connecting the engine and transmission using a thread tap before installing the transmission.
