Overview - Crankshaft: Notes

NOTE:
For assembly work, secure the engine on the Engine and Transmission Holder :VAS6095A . Refer to ENGINE, SECURING ON ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION HOLDER .
- Cylinder Block
- Paired to -5-.
- Sealant applied on cylinder block (for guide frame). Refer to figure in Sealant Applied On Cylinder Block For Guide Frame .
- Shaft Seal
- Always replace. Refer to CRANKSHAFT SEAL, REPLACING, BELT PULLEY SIDE .
- For crankshaft - belt pulley side
- Crankshaft
- Different versions. For the correct allocation.
- Axial play, measuring. Refer to CRANKSHAFT, MEASURING AXIAL CLEARANCE .
- Radial play, measuring. Refer to CRANKSHAFT, MEASURING RADIAL CLEARANCE .
- Crankshaft dimensions. Refer to CRANKSHAFT DIMENSIONS .
- If a new crankshaft is installed, install a new alignment pin -Item ) CYLINDER BLOCK, TRANSMISSION SIDE-. Allocation.
- Alignment Sleeve
- Quantity: 2
- Insert in cylinder block
- Installed position. Refer to figure in Installation Position Of Alignment Bushings .
- Guide Frame
- Paired to -1-.
- Remove the guide rail for the timing mechanism drive chain -Item 1) TIMING MECHANISM DRIVE CHAIN - prior to removal.
- Remove the oil filter before removing.CAUTION:
- Do not loosen the cross bolts in the guide frame.
- Install with sealant (on the cylinder block). Refer to figure in Sealant Applied On Cylinder Block For Guide Frame ; for the correct sealant refer to the Parts information.
- Bolts
- Tightening specification and sequence. Refer to figure in Guide Frame Tightening Specifications & Sequence .
- Always replace
- Use old bolts to measure radial play.
- For guide frame
- Insert the long bolts in the interior and the short bolts in the exterior.
- Bolt
- Tightening specification and sequence. Refer to figure in Baffle Plate Tightening Specifications .
- Always replace
- Baffle Plate
- Bolt
- Tightening sequence. Refer to figure in Guide Frame Tightening Specifications & Sequence .
- For guide frame to cylinder block sealing surfaces
- There are different bolt lengths
- Thrust Washers
- Only on crankshaft bearing 4
- Installed position: lubricating grooves face outward
- Note locating point in guide frame
- Bearing Shell
- For guide frame without lubricating groove
- Replace any worn bearing shells
- Install the new bearing shells for the guide frame with the correct color identification: new crankshaft. Refer to MAIN BEARING SHELLS, NEW CRANKSHAFT, ALLOCATING , worn and reworked crankshaft. Refer to MAIN BEARING SHELLS, USED AND REWORKED CRANKSHAFTS, ALLOCATING
- Do not interchange the central bearing shell for crankshaft bearings 1 through 4 with eccentric crankshaft bearing 5.
- Eccentric bearing shell for crankshaft bearing 5 with offset position for the locating tab
- Bearing Shell
- For cylinder block with oil groove
- Replace any worn bearing shells
- Install the new bearing shells for the cylinder block with the correct color marking: new crankshaft. Refer to MAIN BEARING SHELLS, NEW CRANKSHAFT, ALLOCATING , worn or reworked crankshaft. Refer to MAIN BEARING SHELLS, USED AND REWORKED CRANKSHAFTS, ALLOCATING
- Do not interchange the central bearing shell for crankshaft bearings 1 through 4 with eccentric crankshaft bearing 5.
- Eccentric bearing shell for crankshaft bearing 5 with offset position for the locating tab
