Overview - Crankshaft: Notes

NOTE:

For assembly work, secure the engine on the Engine and Transmission Holder :VAS6095A  . Refer to ENGINE, SECURING ON ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION HOLDER .

  1. Cylinder Block
  2. Shaft Seal
  3. Crankshaft
  4. Alignment Sleeve
  5. Guide Frame
    • Paired to -1-.
    • Remove the guide rail for the timing mechanism drive chain -Item 1) TIMING MECHANISM DRIVE CHAIN - prior to removal.
    • Remove the oil filter before removing.
      CAUTION:
      • Do not loosen the cross bolts in the guide frame.
    • Install with sealant (on the cylinder block). Refer to figure in Sealant Applied On Cylinder Block For Guide Frame ; for the correct sealant refer to the Parts information.
  6. Bolts
    • Tightening specification and sequence. Refer to figure in Guide Frame Tightening Specifications & Sequence .
    • Always replace
    • Use old bolts to measure radial play.
    • For guide frame
    • Insert the long bolts in the interior and the short bolts in the exterior.

  10. Thrust Washers
    • Only on crankshaft bearing 4
    • Installed position: lubricating grooves face outward
    • Note locating point in guide frame
  11. Bearing Shell
    • For guide frame without lubricating groove
    • Replace any worn bearing shells
    • Install the new bearing shells for the guide frame with the correct color identification: new crankshaft. Refer to MAIN BEARING SHELLS, NEW CRANKSHAFT, ALLOCATING , worn and reworked crankshaft. Refer to MAIN BEARING SHELLS, USED AND REWORKED CRANKSHAFTS, ALLOCATING 
    • Do not interchange the central bearing shell for crankshaft bearings 1 through 4 with eccentric crankshaft bearing 5.
    • Eccentric bearing shell for crankshaft bearing 5 with offset position for the locating tab
  12. Bearing Shell
  13. Thrust Washers
    • Only on crankshaft bearing 4
    • Installed position: lubricating grooves face outward
  14. O-Ring
    • Always replace
  15. Seals
    • Always replace
