Special tools and workshop equipment required

All special tools listed when removing.

Procedure

NOTE:

Replace the bolts that were tightened with an additional turn.
Replace the self-locking nuts and bolts, as well as the seals, gaskets and O-rings.
Manual transmission vehicles have a needle bearing inside the drive plate. Check if the needle bearing is inserted before installing. Remove and install the needle bearing on the drive plate. Refer to NEEDLE BEARING IN DRIVE PLATE, REPLACING .
Secure all hose connections with hose clamps that match the ones used in series production.
During installation, install all cable ties back at the same position.

Position the engine on the transmission while guiding the starter and securing with the bolts accessible from above. Refer to TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING for transmission code (0B2) or TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING for transmission code (0B6), TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING for transmission code (0BK) or TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING for transmission code (0AW).
Release the tension from the -10-222A- spindles.
Lower the - VAS6100- and mount the engine and transmission onto the engine mount.
Install the engine mount. Refer to ENGINE MOUNT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Remove the - VAS6100- and - 2024A-.

Install and tighten the bolts connecting the engine to the transmission. Refer to TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING for transmission code (0B2) or TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING for transmission code (0B6), TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING for transmission code (0BK) or TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING for transmission code (0AW).
If removed, install the ATF lines. Refer to OVERVIEW - ATF CIRCUIT for transmission code (0AW), ATF CIRCUIT for transmission code (0B6), ATF COOLER AND ATF PIPES OVERVIEW for transmission code (0BK).
Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Installing .
Install the front exhaust pipe/front muffler. Refer to FRONT EXHAUST PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Install the exhaust system without tension. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING WITHOUT TENSION .
If remove, install the power steering pump. Refer to OVERVIEW - POWER STEERING PUMP .
Install the A/C compressor. Refer to A/C COMPRESSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING ON BRACKET .
Install the ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Connections and wire routing. Refer to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS information.
Install the engine control module. Refer to Engine Control Module -J623-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Install the wires, Terminal 30 Wire Junction 2 - TV22- and engine compartment E-box cover. Refer to Relay and fuse panels .
Install the tower brace. Refer to TOWER BRACE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Install the windshield wiper fluid reservoir filler neck. Refer to WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Follow all steps after connecting the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

CAUTION: There is a risk of destroying the control modules due to excessive voltage.

Do not use a charger to jump start.

Install the air filter housing. Refer to the appropriate Service Information.
Reset the service position. Refer to SERVICE POSITION, PERFORMING AND RESETTING .
Check the oil level. Refer to the appropriate FLUID CAPACITY TABLES information.

NOTE: Used coolant cannot be used again.

Fill with coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .
On vehicles with ATF circuit, check the ATF level. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING for Transmission code 0B6, ATF, CHECKING LEVEL AND CORRECTING for Transmission code 0BK or TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING for Transmission code 0B2.
Install the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Install the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
Install the front wheel housing liners. Refer to WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
The combustion misfire adaptation must be adapted after replacing the engine. Select 01 Reset Combustion Misfire Adaptation in Guided Fault Finding using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Tightening Specifications

NOTE:

The tightening specifications apply only to lightly greased, oiled, phosphated or blackened nuts and bolts.

Additional lubricants, such as engine or transmission oil are permissible, although lubricants containing graphite are not.

Do not use any ungreased parts.

Tightening specification tolerance: ±15%.
