Center console, assembly overview

1 - Center console

Removing

Refer to coding on vehicles with encoded radio/radio navigation system (RNS); if necessary, interrogate.
Disconnect ground (GND) strap at battery with ignition switched off.
Vehicles with radio: Remove radio. →

- 91 RADIO, TELEPHONE, NAVIGATION, TRIP COMPUTER for COMMUNICATION, CABRIOLET
For vehicles with on-screen navigation system: Remove Control module for operating electronics, navigation J401. →

Remove radio trim and storage compartment trim in front center section → Radio cover and trim, assembly overview .
Remove center armrest → Rear center armrest and ashtray, assembly overview .
Remove A/C Control Head E87. → 87 AIR CONDITIONING
Apply parking brake firmly.

In the case of an automatic transmission push selector lever fully back.
Remove caps - 4 - from bolts - 3 - on right and left of front footwell at side of center console.
Remove bolts - 3 - on right and left of front footwell at side of center console.
Remove parking brake lever handle → Parking brake handle, removing and installing .

Remove parking brake trim → Parking brake lever trim, assembly overview .
Pry out cover - 7 - from front.
Remove the two Phillips head screws - 9 - on connecting piece - 8 - and remove connecting piece. Otherwise the center console cannot be pulled over the parking brake lever.
Manual transmission: Remove cover and boot → Gear cover and boot, assembly overview .

Automatic gearbox: Pry gear cover off upward → Gear cover and boot, assembly overview .
Remove front ashtray → Front ashtray, assembly overview .
Remove two bolts - 5 - in ashtray opening.
Remove four bolts - 10 - around the gear lever, which secure the center console.

Disconnect connector for convertible-top actuation, cigarette lighter and/or navigation module → Navigation system operating unit in center console, assembly overview .
Remove two bolts - 2 -.
Remove hex combi nut - 6 -.
Push center console carefully backward and remove from vehicle. .

NOTE:

Before installing center console, make sure all insulating elements have been installed correctly → Insulation, center console .

2 - Bolts (2x)

Tightening torque 3.5 Nm

3 - Bolts (2x)

Tightening torque 3.5 Nm

4 - Covers (2x)

5 - Bolts (2x)

Tightening torque 3.5 Nm

6 - Hex combi nut

Vehicles with center armrest: Tightening torque 10 Nm
Vehicles without center armrest: Tightening torque 5 Nm

7 - Parking brake cover

8 - Connecting piece

9 - Bolts (2x)

Tightening torque 2 Nm

10 - Bolts (4x)

Tightening torque 3.5 Nm
