Front Heating & A/C Unit

Refer to FRONT HVAC UNIT  for notes on disassembly.

Front A/C unit (without and with auxiliary heater heating element -Z35-)

1. Air Intake Housing
   • Do not disassemble further.
     NOTE:

     As of 11.2007, the Comfort A/C system as an updated Fresh Air Blower Control Module -J126- (an updated Comfort Climatronic control module -J255- and an updated Fresh Air Blower -V2-). An updated air intake housing is also being used. Make sure to use the correct allocation for these parts with each other. Refer to FRESH AIR BLOWER CONTROL MODULE -J126- .

3. Dust and Pollen Filter (With Activated Charcoal Filter Element)
   • Follow the replacement intervals, refer to Maintenance Intervals Rep. Gr. 03.
   • With an activated charcoal filter element.
   • Removing and installing, refer to DUST AND POLLEN FILTER .
     NOTE:

     An Air Quality Sensor -G238- is also installed on vehicles with a Comfort version Climatronic Control Module -J255-.

4. Dust and Pollen Filter Shaft Cover
   • Located in vehicle behind footwell lining in front passenger's footwell (below on heating & A/C unit).
   • Removing and installing, refer to DUST AND POLLEN FILTER .
5. Cover For Right Heater Core
   • Removing and installing, refer to RIGHT HEATER CORE COVERS - HEATING & A/C UNIT INSTALLED .
6. Cover For Heater Core At Bottom
   • Cover is removed and installed with the heater core.
   • Remove and install with the A/C unit installed, refer to HEATER CORE, HEATING & A/C UNIT INSTALLED .
   • Remove and install with the A/C unit removed, refer to HEATER CORE, HEATING & A/C UNIT REMOVED .
7. Retaining Pin For Cover For Heater Core At Bottom
   • Removing and installing for example, with heating & A/C unit removed, refer to HEATER CORE, HEATING & A/C UNIT REMOVED .
8. Cover For Left Heater Core
   • Removing and installing, refer to LEFT HEATER CORE COVERS - HEATING & A/C UNIT INSTALLED .
9. Heater Core
   • Remove and install heater core together with cover.
   • Remove and install with the A/C unit installed, refer to HEATER CORE, HEATING & A/C UNIT INSTALLED .
   • Remove and install with the A/C unit removed, refer to HEATER CORE, HEATING & A/C UNIT REMOVED .
10. Retaining Clip For Coolant Pipes
    • Removing and installing for example, with heating & A/C unit removed, refer to HEATER CORE, HEATING & A/C UNIT REMOVED .
11. Coolant Pipe To Heater Core
    • Removing and installing for example, with heating & A/C unit removed, refer to HEATER CORE, HEATING & A/C UNIT REMOVED .
    • Supply from engine (via pipe group under left fender), refer to INCORPORATION OF FRONT HVAC SYSTEM INTO COOLING CIRCUIT .
12. Coolant Pipe To Heater Core
    • Removing and installing for example, with heating & A/C unit removed, refer to HEATER CORE, HEATING & A/C UNIT REMOVED .
    • Return to engine (via pipe group under left fender), refer to INCORPORATION OF FRONT HVAC SYSTEM INTO COOLING CIRCUIT .
13. O-ring
    • Removing and installing, refer to HEATER CORE, HEATING & A/C UNIT REMOVED .
14. Base Plate With Foam Seal
    • Removing and installing, refer to HEATER CORE, HEATING & A/C UNIT REMOVED .
15. Grommet
    • Pass-through of coolant pipes from passenger compartment into engine compartment.
    • Check for correct installation position in plenum chamber front wall.
    • Removing and installing, refer to HEATER CORE, HEATING & A/C UNIT REMOVED .
16. Evaporator Housing
    • Different versions on vehicles with and without the Auxiliary Air Heater Heating Element -Z35-.
    • Disassembling and assembling, refer to EVAPORATOR HOUSING .
      NOTE:

      Starting with MY 2009, certain vehicles with a 6 cylinder TDI engine without an auxiliary heater, have an Auxiliary Air Heater Heating Element -Z35- installed depending on the emissions standard (running change depending on the engine). Refer to the Audi Sales Program.

      Different components on versions with and without an auxiliary heater heating element, refer to AUXILIARY HEATER HEATING ELEMENT Z35 .

17. Air Distribution Housing
    • Disassembling and assembling, refer to AIR DISTRIBUTION HOUSING .
    • Different versions (Basic and Comfort).
    • Air duct and doors in air distribution housing, refer to AIR DUCT IN FRONT HEATING & A/C UNIT .
18. Threaded Plate
    • For mounting retaining plates with control motors to air distribution housing.
