Selector Mechanism

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Audi TT and 2008 Audi TT. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Removing 

Proceed as follows:

-- Switch ignition off.

-- Remove selector lever handle. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE .

-- Remove center console cover panel. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Remove ashtray. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Disconnect electrical connection -A-.

NOTE:

Ignore -1, B, C-.

-- Disconnect electrical harness connector -3- from mass air flow (MAF) sensor -G70-.

-- Open clips -1 and 2- and remove air guide hose from mass air flow (MAF) sensor -G70-.

-- Remove front air intake nozzle from lock carrier -4-.

-- Remove engine cover.

-- Place selector lever in position P.

-- Remove securing plate -C-.

-- Press securing plate -A- upward and remove.

-- Press selector lever cable off of selector shaft lever -arrow- and remove from bracket -D-.

NOTE:
  • Selector lever cable must not be bent or kinked.
  • Ignore items -1 and B-.

-- Remove oxygen sensor (O2S) behind three way catalytic converter (TWC) -G130-. Refer to [For engine(s) CETA, CCTA] Removal and Installation or refer to [For engine(s) CBRA] Removal and Installation or refer to [For engine(s) BPY, CDMA] Removal and Installation .

-- Remove exhaust system bracket and tunnel brace -arrows-.

-- Remove heat shield -arrows-.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging decoupling elements.

  • Do not bend decoupling elements in front exhaust pipe more than 10°.

-- Separate exhaust system at clamping sleeve -1-.

-- Lower front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter and front muffler slightly and remove heat shield toward rear.

-- Reconnect exhaust system with clamping sleeve.

NOTE:

A second technician must be under the vehicle to remove the selector mechanism.

-- Remove nuts -arrows- (from above).

NOTE:

Ignore items -1 and 2-.

-- Remove selector mechanism downward together with selector lever cable.

NOTE:
  • Selector lever cable must not be bent or kinked.
  • Selector mechanism can also be removed without selector lever cable, disconnect selector lever cable from selector mechanism. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE .

Installing 

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

NOTE:
  • Replace selector lever cable securing plate and lock washer.
  • Selector lever cable must not be bent or kinked.

-- Install heat shield. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Reconnect exhaust system and ensure it is not under stress. Refer to [For engine(s) CETA, CCTA] Description and Operation or refer to [For engine(s) CDMA] Description and Operation or refer to [For engine(s) CBRA] Description and Operation or refer to [For engine(s) BPY] Description and Operation .

-- Install ashtray. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install center console trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install selector lever handle. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE .

-- Adjust selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING .

-- Selector mechanism and ignition key withdrawal lock, checking. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM AND IGNITION KEY WITHDRAWAL LOCK, CHECKING .
