Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
Replace bolts that are tightened to the specification.
Replace self-locking nuts and bolts and seals, gaskets and O-rings.
The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.
Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory.
To secure the air guide hoses on their connections, spray the clamps used previously with rust remover before installing.
When installing, bring all cable ties back to same positions.
Vehicles with a 3.0L TFSI Engine
-- If the transmission was replaced: install the starter flange -2- on the new transmission.
-- Attach the alignment sleeve -1- and the starter flange -2- with the bolt -3- to the transmission, tightening specification -Item 5- OVERVIEW - TORQUE CONVERTER .
-- Install the cover -4- for the starter.

-- Check if the alignment sleeves -A- for centering the engine/transmission are in the cylinder block and insert them if they are not.
- The aluminum bolts -1 to 11- may be used twice. Therefore, the bolts must be marked with two notches "X" made by a chisel after they have be used the first time -arrow-.
- To prevent damaging the bolts when marking them, do not clamp them in a vise. Insert the bolt using a 14 mm socket with a 1 /2 drive, which is inserted in to the vise, as illustrated.
- Bolts marked with an "X" may not be used again.

-- Checking position of torque converter.
- When the converter is installed correctly, the distance -a- between the lower contact surfaces on threaded holes and on the torque converter and torque converter bell housing contact surfaces is at least 23 mm.
Danger of causing damage to the torque converter drive plate or the ATF pump.
- The distance is approximately 11 mm when the torque converter is not fully installed.
-- Turn the torque converter and the engine drive plate before connecting the engine and the transmission so that the holes for the bolts -1- are at the same height as the opening on the removed starter.
-- Install the cover for the starter -2-.
-- Ensure no lines are kinked when sliding engine and transmission together.
-- Use new bolts to attach the torque converter to the drive plate.
-- Tighten the torque converter. Refer to TORQUE CONVERTER .
-- Install the starter. Refer to STARTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the front driveshaft. Refer to FRONT DRIVESHAFT .
-- Install the rear driveshaft. Refer to REAR DRIVESHAFT ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .
-- Install the ATF pipes. Refer to ATF CIRCUIT .
-- Check the connectors -1 through 3- for water entry or corrosion before connecting them to the transmission. Repair them if necessary.
-- Tighten the front driveshaft to the transfer case. Refer to FRONT DRIVESHAFT ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .
