Transmission (vehicles with 8-cylinder MPI engine), installing
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:
- Follow repair instructions → Repair instructions .
NOTE:
- When performing repairs, replace self-locking nuts and bolts.
- Replace bolts which have a specified tightening angle, as well as shaft seals and gaskets.
- Heat shield sleeves must be installed in their original positions.
- Hose supports and charge air system hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.
- Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory .
- All cable ties must be installed in their original positions.
- Before installing transmission, make sure alignment sleeves - A - are correctly positioned on cylinder block, if necessary install.
- If an intermediate plate was equipped between engine and transmission, reinstall it in same position.
- Before guiding together the engine and transmission, turn torque converter and engine drive plate so that one hole and one threaded hole are at the level of the removed starter opening.
- Make sure that no wires become pinched when connecting engine and transmission.
- Fasten transmission to engine.
NOTE:
- The torque specifications apply only to lightly greased, oiled, phosphated, or black-finished nuts and bolts.
- Additional lubricant such as engine or gear oil may be used, but do not use lubricants that contain graphite.
- Do not use degreased parts.
- Tolerance for torque specification ± 15%.
- Insert guide pin on adapter T40058 so large diameter - arrow 1 - faces toward engine. The small diameter - arrow 2 - faces toward the adapter.
- To tighten torque converter bolts, counter hold crankshaft with adapter T40058.
NOTE:
- Pay no attention to - arrow -.
- To fasten torque converter to drive plate, use new genuine bolts.
- Install 6 bolts - arrow - of torque converter in opening of removed starter hand-tight at first (turn crankshaft 1 /3 revolution further for each bolt).
- Then, tighten bolts of torque converter to specified torque (turn crankshaft 1 /3 turn further for each bolt).
- Install starter → 27 - BATTERY, STARTER, GENERATOR, CRUISE CONTROL .
Observe markings made during removal on ATF cooling hoses to ATF cooler, to prevent switching them during installation → ATF cooling lines, assembly overview .
- Install ATF cooling hoses to ATF cooler and remove hose clamps up to 25 mm dia. 3094.
- Connect electrical connections on transmission, thereby plugging in screw connections and pivoting them clockwise, against direction of - arrow -.
- Tighten Engine Speed (RPM) Sensor G28 - arrow
