Front transmission supports and transmission mounts, removing and installing
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Drive vehicle over a service pit, so that all four wheels are on the floor.
- Remove air duct - 1 - from transmission.
- Remove noise insulation - 2 - below engine/transmission.
- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 - at rear of subframe on both sides of vehicle → 40 - FRONT SUSPENSION .
- Remove supports for subframe - A -.
- On left and right, remove both bolts - B - for transmission mount at subframe.
NOTE:
- Both front transmission mounts must always be detached from subframe.

Installing right and left front transmission supports with transmission mounts
Right transmission support:
- Fasten right transmission support - H - to transmission, following the bolt tightening sequence of - 1 through 3 -.
NOTE:
- If equipped, also fasten shield - G - between transmission and transmission support.
| Item | Component | Nm |
|---|---|---|
| - 1 - , - 2 - , - 3 - | Bolt
|
40 |
- Set transmission mount - D - together with heat shield - E - and washer - F - into transmission support.
- Hand-tighten nut with washer - I -.
Left transmission support:
- Fasten left transmission support - G - to transmission.
| Item | Component | Nm |
|---|---|---|
| - H - | 3 x Bolt
|
40 |
- Set transmission mount - D - together with heat shield - E - and washer - F - into transmission support.
- Hand-tighten nut with washer - I -.
- Install bolts - 1 - and - 2 - at rear of subframe with supports - A -. Tightening torques → 40 - FRONT SUSPENSION .
Left and right transmission supports
- Tighten right and left bolts - B - each 3 to 5 turns.
- Tighten nut with washer - I - to only 5 Nm.
- To avoid tension, it may be necessary to align transmission mount to transmission support again.
Adjustment of transmission mount
NOTE:
- To adjust the transmission mount, the thickness of the spacer plates - C - on the right and left side must be determined.
- Spacer plates are available in thicknesses of 0.5; 1.0; 2.0 and 3.0 mm .
Determine gap between transmission mount and subframe:
- Place enough spacer plates between transmission mount - D - and subframe - A - up until they can be still be inserted without much force.
- Remove spacer plates.
- Add together thicknesses of individual plates, as they will result in the gap dimension.
Determination of final spacer plate:
For thickness of the final spacer plate(s), an additional 1.0 mm must be added to determined gap.
- Lift transmission slightly using Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A.
- Insert as few spacer plates as possible to achieve the corresponding determined thickness on right and left, maximum of 4 plates per side.
- Lower transmission again.
- Fasten all bolts to torque specification.
