Selector lever cable, checking and adjusting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Pry lever 80 - 200
Checking
- Place selector lever in position "P".
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove shield from selector shaft lever.
- Press selector lever cable ball socket - 1 - off selector shaft lever - 3 - using Pry Lever 80 - 200.
NOTE:
- Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
- Shift selector lever from "P" to "S".
- Check protective sleeve on selector lever cable for damage at front, replace cable if necessary.
- Shift mechanism and selector lever cable must move freely. If necessary, replace selector lever cable (→ Selector lever cable, removing and installing ) or service shift mechanism.
- Remove selector lever handle → Selector lever handle, removing and installing .
- Place selector lever in position "N".
- Remove front ashtray → 68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT .
- Remove center console cover panel → 68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT .
- Pull electrical connector - 1 - out of protective sleeve - 2 -.
- Disconnect electrical connector - 1 - for circuit board.
- Disconnect electrical connector - 3 - for Shift Lock Solenoid N110.
NOTE:
- The connector - 3 - is also covered by a protective sleeve.
- To disconnect cover from shift mechanism function unit, carefully release retaining tabs - arrows - one after another.
- Pull cover upward slightly until cover guides - 1 - outside of openings - 2 -.
- Then lift rear of cover upward in direction of - arrow - and at the same time pull it over cross member of center console - 3 -.
- Place selector lever in position "P".
- Shift lever/switch rod at transmission in "P" position. Catch must engage in parking lock gear, both front wheels are locked (cannot be turned together in one direction).
NOTE:
- To ensure that selector shaft lever is in position "D" , shift the selector shaft lever on transmission forward until stop in position "P". Then, move it three shift positions toward the rear again (opposite of driving direction).
- It must be possible to press selector lever cable on to lever/shift rod.

- If necessary, loosen selector lever cable locking screw with Torx 25 socket, press on selector lever cable and re-tighten locking screw.
Adjusting
- Place selector lever in position "D".
- Loosen selector lever cable locking screw with Torx 25 socket.
NOTE:
- Loosen clamp bolt approx. 1 turn - do not remove completely.
- With clamp bolt loosened, selector lever must remain in position "D" , otherwise adjustment will be incorrect.
- Carefully move selector lever forward and backwards slightly without shifting to a different selector lever position.
- Tighten selector lever cable locking screw with Torx 25 socket (13 Nm).
NOTE:
- Do not pull selector lever back or forward while adjusting, otherwise adjustment will be incorrect.
- Guide cover over selector lever - 4 - and at the same time under cross member for center console - 3 - at front.
- Then pivot cover downward at rear in direction of - arrow -.
- Insert cover guides - 1 - in openings - 2 -.
- Then push down on cover until retainer tabs - arrows - clip into place.
- Connect electrical connector - 3 - for Shift Lock Solenoid N110.
- Push connector - 3 - into protective sleeve (not shown in illustration).
- Connect electrical connector - 1 - for circuit board.
- Push electrical connector - 1 - out of protective sleeve - 2 -.
- Install ashtray and center console cover panel → 68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT .
- Install selector lever handle → Selector lever handle, removing and installing .
- Check shift mechanism → Selector mechanism, checking .
