Shift mechanism function unit, removing and installing

Removing

Loosen quick-release connectors - 2 - and remove rear noise insulation.

Remove nuts - arrows - and slide shift mechanism heat shield back.

NOTE:

Shown with drive shaft removed in illustration.

Remove bolt - 1 -.
Pry out lock washers - 2 - and remove sound insulation.

NOTE:

Shown with drive shaft removed in illustration.

Remove selector lever handle → Selector lever handle, removing and installing .
Remove cover for shift mechanism → Selector mechanism cover, removing and installing .
Disconnect electrical connector for Shift Lock Solenoid N110 and Transmission Park Selector Switch F305.

Pry manual release Bowden cable - 1 - out from bracket - 2 -.
Remove bolts - 4 -.

NOTE:

Disregard - 3 -.

Carefully pull shift mechanism function unit up slightly.

At the same time, guide manual release actuator mechanism - A - and selector lever cable - B - out of shift mechanism function unit.

NOTE:

Ignore - D -.
Unclip selector lever cable boot from shift unit if necessary.

Loosen selector lever cable locking screw - arrow - with Torx 25 socket.
Remove selector lever cable securing plate - C - on shift mechanism function unit forward.
Remove shift mechanism unit forward while removing selector lever cable.

NOTE:

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

Shift selector lever and selector shaft lever into "D" position.

Guide selector lever cable - B - into locking fastener hole - arrow -.
Attach selector lever cable securing plate - C - to shift mechanism function unit.

Installation position: The angled end of securing plate faces upward.

Check whether selector lever cable rubber boot is engaged correctly on shift unit and sealed well
Carefully guide shift mechanism function unit into shift unit, being careful of manual release actuator.

The Bowden cable must be routed beneath shift unit right mounting bracket - D -.

Adjust selector lever cable → Selector lever cable, checking and adjusting .

NOTE:

To align shift mechanism to center console switch trim, nuts - 3 - for side distance or bolts - 4 - for height adjustment must be loosened.
Ignore - 1 - and - 2 -.

Install cover for shift mechanism → Selector mechanism cover, removing and installing .
Install front ashtray → 68 - INTERIOR EQUIPMENT .
Install selector lever handle → Selector lever handle, removing and installing .
Check shift mechanism → Selector mechanism, checking .
