Bumper cover (sedan), assembly overview

The following list pertains, to Fig 1.

  1. Bolt 
    • 1 Nm
  2. Wheelhousing liner 
  3. Combination nut 
    • 4 Nm
  4. Special nut 
    • 4 Nm
  5. Guide piece 
  6. Clip 
  7. Trim molding 
  8. Bolt 
    • 2 Nm
  9. Cover 
    • Two-piece version
    • One-piece version (for USA)
    • Removing:
      • Remove side luggage compartment trim.

        See LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT SIDE TRIM, ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW (except Avant).

      • Disconnect electrical harness connectors to parking aid sensors at control module (under tail light, left side).
      • Remove special nuts -3- (accessible from luggage compartment).
      • Remove combination nuts -4-.
      • Remove wheel housing liners -2- at rear area.
      • Remove bolts -1- left and right on guide piece -5-.
      • Remove bolts -8-.
      • Unclip side pieces on guide piece.
      • Remove cover.
    • Separating two-piece cover:
      • Disengage locking tabs and separate both pieces of cover.
  10. Side impact molding 
    • Replace
      • Side impact moldings are secured to bumper with double-sided adhesive tape.
      • It is not possible to remove without destroying.
      • To remove, pull side impact molding away from bumper.
      • Remove any residual adhesive on bumper.

    • Installation on same bumper
      • Bumper must be free of dust and grease in adhesion area
      • Clean bumper using mineral spirits or cleaning solution D 009 401 04.
NOTE: Centering holes for centering pins for the exact installation of side impact moldings are already present in bumper
