Reverse Lockout Solenoid Disassembly/Reassembly

  1. Remove the intake air duct (see step 2 on REMOVAL ).
  2. Remove the air cleaner housing (see AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  3. Carefully remove the shift cables and the cable bracket together to avoid bending the shift cables (see step 11 on TRANSMISSION INSTALLATION ).
  4. Disconnect the reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector (A).

  5. Remove the reverse lockout solenoid (B).
  6. Remove the pin (A), the select lock return spring (C), and select lock cam B.

  7. Install the components of the reverse lockout solenoid in the reverse order of removal.
  8. Clean any dirt and oil from the sealing surface.
  9. Apply liquid gasket, P/N 08718-0003 evenly to the shift arm cover mating surface of the reverse lockout solenoid. Install the component within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket.
    NOTE: If too much time has passed after applying the liquid gasket, remove the old liquid gasket and residue, then reapply new liquid gasket.

  10. Install the reverse lockout solenoid (A).

  11. Connect the reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector (B).
  12. Carefully install the shift cables and the cable bracket together to avoid bending the shift cables (see step 55 on TRANSMISSION DISASSEMBLY ).
  13. Install the air cleaner housing (see AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  14. Install the intake air duct (see step 9 on EXHAUST PIPE AND MUFFLER REPLACEMENT ).
