Overview - Cylinder Head

  1. Bracket
    • For the fuel hose
  2. 10 Nm
  3. Cap
    • Replace the seal if damaged.
  4. Cylinder Head Cover
  5. Bolt
    • With a spacer sleeve and seal
    • Replace the seal if it is damaged.
    • Tightening sequence and tightening specification. Refer to Fig 3.
  6. Cylinder Head Cover Gasket
    • Replace if damaged or leaking
    • Note the installation position
  7. Lifting Eye
    • With the knock sensor connector retaining plate
  8. 23 Nm
  9. Intake Manifold Support
  10. 23 Nm
  11. 10 Nm
  12. 10 Nm
  13. Connection
    • To the Heater Core
  14. Seal/Gasket
    • Always replace after removing
    • Note the installation position
  15. Chain Tensioner, 50 Nm
    • For the camshaft timing chain
    • Only rotate the engine with chain tensioner installed
  16. Cover
    • Can be removed and installed with the engine installed
    • Coat the sealing surface with Sealant:D 176 501 A1 
  17. Seal
  18. 8 Nm
  19. 8 Nm
  20. Coolant Pipe
    • With clips for vacuum line
  21. 23 Nm
  22. Guide Rail
    • For the camshaft timing chain
  23. 23 Nm
    • Insert with Locking Fluid:D 000 600 A2 
  24. Connection
    • Bolt on in front of cylinder head installation
  25. O-Ring
    • Replace
  26. Seal
    • Always replace after removing
  27. Cylinder Head Gasket
  28. Cylinder Head
  29. Cylinder Head Bolt
    • Always replace after removing
    • Coat the bolt with Locking Fluid:D 197 300 A2  before installing. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING => .
    • Pay attention to the tightening sequence and the tightening specification when tightening. Refer to Fig 2.

Step Bolts Tightening Specification
1. -1- through -20- 15 Nm
2. -1- through -20- 30 Nm
3. -1- through -20- 90° additional turn
4. -1- through -20- 90° additional turn

Step Bolts Tightening Specification
1. -1- through -17- Hand-tight
2. -1- through -17- 10 Nm

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Maximum permissible distortion: 0.05 mm
