Cylinder Head Cover, Removing And Installing

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Removing

Any cable ties which are opened or cut open when removing, must be replaced in the same position when installing.

-- Remove the intake manifold upper section. Refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD UPPER SECTION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

NOTE:

Seal the intake ducts in the intake manifold and in cylinder head with clean cloths.

-- Remove the bolts -2- for the retainer -1- from the cylinder head cover.

-- Remove the ignition coils. Refer to IGNITION COILS WITH POWER OUTPUT STAGES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Pull off/disconnect all other wires from the cylinder head cover and set them to the side.

-- Loosen the cylinder head cover bolts starting from the inside and working toward the outside -17 through 1-.

-- Remove the bolts and the cylinder head cover.

Installing:

-- Place a little Sealant:D 454 300 A2  on the locations -arrows- marked on the cover.

-- Install the cylinder head cover and tighten the bolts evenly starting on the inside and working toward the outside. Refer to Figure.

-- Install the intake manifold upper section. Refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD UPPER SECTION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

NOTE:

Replace the cylinder head cover if it is damaged or if there are leaks.

Check the fuel hoses for secure fit.

-- Fill the coolant, if necessary. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .
