SUBFRAME With Motor, Removing And Installing: Removing

The steering gear and the Power Steering Control Module -J500- will be called steering gear in the information that follows.

The Left Front Level Control System Sensor -G78- and the Right Front Level Control System Sensor -G289- will be called front level control system sensor in the information that follows.

The Electric Drive Power and Control Electronics 2 -JX4- will be called power and control electronics in the information that follows.

The Three-Phase Current Drive 2 -VX97- will be called three-phase current drive in the information that follows.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of fatal injury due to high voltage.

Electrocution by direct contact or electric arc can cause severe bodily injury or fatal injury.

- Have a high-voltage technician (HVT) or a high-voltage expert (HVE) de-energize the high-voltage system.

-- Refer to HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM, DE-ENERGIZING .

-- Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER, BRINGING INTO SERVICE POSITION .

-- Remove the front underbody trim panel. Refer to FRONT UNDERBODY TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the left and right front wheel housing liner. Refer to FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the left and right air duct. Refer to AIR DUCT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the battery tray. Refer to BATTERY TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING .

-- Remove the Heating Element (PTC) 3 -Z132-. Refer to HEATING ELEMENT (PTC) 3 -Z132-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, RWD or HEATING ELEMENT (PTC) 3 -Z132-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, AWD .

-- Remove the left and right drive axle. Refer to Drive Axle, Removing and Installing  .

-- Remove the bolts -3- for the brace -2- at the lock carrier -1-.

LHD vehicle 

-- Remove the bolt -3-.

-- Remove the potential equalization cable -2-.

-- Disconnect the connector -4- to the power and control electronics -1-.

-- Unclip the wire -arrows-.

-- Unclip the bracket -arrows- for the coolant hose -2-.

-- Remove the bolts -2- and -4-.

-- Remove the universal joint -1- on the steering gear -5-.

-- Remove the universal joint -1- on the steering intermediate shaft -3-.

RHD vehicles 

-- Remove the bolt -2-.

-- Disconnect the connector -5- to the power and control electronics -1-.

-- Unclip the bracket -arrows- for the wire -3- at the bracket -4-.

-- Unclip the coolant hose -2- -arrows-.

-- Remove the bracket -1-.

-- Remove the bolts -2- and -5-.

-- Remove the transmission bleeder line -2- from the three-phase current drive -1-.

-- Open the hose clamp -arrow-.

-- Remove the coolant hose -2- from the three-phase current drive -1-.

-- Unclip the cable holder -2- from the subframe -1-.

-- Remove the bolts -4- for the bracket -3- on the high-voltage cable -2-.

-- Push the retainer -4- in the -direction of the arrow B-.

-- Open the locking bracket -3- in -direction of the arrow A- and disconnect the high-voltage connector -2-.

-- Remove the bolt -1- on the crossbrace -2-.

-- Pry off the cable guide -2- in -direction of the arrow- from the crossmember -1-.

-- Unclip the bracket -2- for the brake lines -3- from the right subframe to the right rear -1-.

-- Remove the inner pins -4- and pry out the clip -3-.

-- Remove the coolant pipe -2- on the crossbrace -1-.

-- Open the hose clamp -3-.

-- Remove the coolant hose -2- from the three-phase current drive -1-.

-- Open the bracket -2- for the coolant hose -3-.

-- Free up the coolant hose -3-.

-- Remove the bolts -6- from the subframe -7-.

-- Remove the inner pin from the clip -5- and pry out.

-- Free up the coolant pipe -4- on the subframe -7-.

-- Open the hose clamp -2- above the crossbrace -1-.

-- Remove the upper coolant hose -3- on the coolant pipe -4-.

LHD vehicle 

-- Disconnect the connectors -1- and -4- at the steering gear -3-.

-- Unclip the wire from the steering gear -3-.

RHD vehicles 

-- Disconnect the connectors -2- and -3- from the steering gear -1-.

-- Unclip the wire from the steering gear -1-.

Continuation for all vehicles 

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- for the impact member -2- from the subframe -1-.

-- Remove the bolt -4- for the brace -3-.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- for the impact member -2- from the subframe -1-.

-- Remove the bolt -4- for the brace -3- using the Socket/Bit Set - 39 Piece: VAS 6928  .

-- Pull the left and right of the brace -2- forward in -direction of the arrow A-.

-- Pull the brace -2- down in -direction of the arrow B- beside the subframe -1-.

-- Pull the brace -2- rearward in the -direction of the arrow A-.

-- Pull the brace -2- upward in the -direction of the arrow B- beside the lock carrier -1-.

-- Refer to Vehicle Front Components, Supporting  .

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the wires due to the tight working conditions.

- When lowering, ensure the A/C pipes and wires have sufficient clearance.

-- Carefully lower the subframe 100 mm with the motor using the Scissor Lift Table: VAS 6131B  .

-- Secure the subframe with the motor to the Scissor Lift Table: VAS 6131B  using the Tensioning Strap: T10038  .

-- Carefully further lower the subframe with the motor using the Scissor Lift Table: VAS 6131B  .
