Overview - Differential, AWD And Fwd With Front Axle Differential Lock

NOTE:

To install, heat the bearing inner races/tapered roller bearing to approximately 100 °C (212 °F) with : VAS6414  . Wear protective gloves.

Replace both tapered roller bearings together.

Adjust the differential when replacing the tapered roller bearing, differential housing, transmission housing or clutch housing. Refer to DIFFERENTIAL, ADJUSTING .

  1. Transmission Housing
  2. Shim
  3. Outer Race/Tapered Roller Bearing
  4. Bearing Inner Race/Taper Roller Bearing
  5. Differential Housing
    • With differential bevel gears, thrust washer union, differential bevel gear axle and final drive gear
    • Differential Bevel Gear, Thrust Washer Union and Differential Bevel Gear Axle, Removing. Refer to Figure
    • Differential Bevel Gear, Thrust Washer Union and Differential Bevel Gear Axle, Installing. Refer to Figure
  6. Bearing Inner Race/Taper Roller Bearing
  7. Outer Race/Tapered Roller Bearing
  8. Washer

    Installed position: the collar on the inner circumference faces the seal.

  9. Clutch Housing
  10. Seal
  11. Seal
  12. Hex Bolt
    • 40 Nm+ 90°
    • Replace after removing
    • Quantity: 4
  13. Bolt
    • 33 Nm
    • Replace after removing
  14. Right Flange Shaft
  15. Seal
  16. Needle Bearing (Polygon Bearing)
  17. Circlip
    • Replace after removing
    • On AWD for needle bearing (polygon bearing)
  18. AWD Bevel Box
  19. Seal
  20. Circlip
    • Holds the tapered ring, the thrust washer and the pressure spring when the flange shaft is removed
  21. Tapered Ring
    • With grooves for the thrust washer
    • Installation position: taper faces the differential housing
  22. Thrust Washer
    • Installation position: collar faces the pressure spring; tabs face the tapered ring
  23. Left Flange Shaft Pressure Spring
    • Installed behind left flange shaft
  24. Left Flange Shaft
    • Depending on vehicle equipment with ring
    • Alternating from side to side, pry the protective ring off of the left flange shaft with a screwdriver.
    • Installation position: depression faces away from the threaded holes in the flange shaft
    • Install the protective ring all the way by hand.
    • The protective ring must engage in the flange shaft.
  25. Seal
    • Replace after removing
    • For the left flange shaft
    • Replacing with the transmission installed. Refer to LEFT SEAL, REPLACING .
