Engine, Installing: Procedure

-- Observe safety precautions. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

-- Follow repair instructions. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION .

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

NOTE:

Replace the bolts that have been tightened to the tightening angle.

Replace the self-locking nuts and bolts, sealing rings, seals and O-rings.

Secure hose connections with standard production clamps.

When installing, bring all cable ties back to same positions.

Vehicles with a Manual Transmission

-- Lubricate the splines on the input shaft lightly with Grease G 000 100.

-- Install the clutch slave cylinder. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

All Vehicles

-- Secure the engine mounts on the engine, shake the engine/transmission assembly to align it and tighten the subframe mount. Refer to ASSEMBLY MOUNTS OVERVIEW .

-- Pay attention to the electrical connections and wiring routing. Refer to Removal And Installation and => appropriate System Wiring Diagram Information.

-- Install the front exhaust pipe. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER .

-- Install the right drive axle and attach the left drive axle to the transmission. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Install the power steering pump. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Install the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT .

-- Install the radiator fan air shroud. Refer to COOLANT FAN .

-- Reset the service position. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

Vehicles with a Manual Transmission

-- Install the gearshift mechanism and adjust it. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Install the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Vehicles with an Automatic Transmission

-- Install the selector lever cable and adjust it. Refer to Diagnosis And Testing .

All Vehicles

-- Install the battery tray. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Install the battery. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Fill the coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- Adapt the Engine Control Module (ECM) with the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

-- Perform the vehicle system test using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Follow all safety precautions when performing the road test. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS, TEST AND MEASURING INSTRUMENTS DURING TEST DRIVE .

-- Perform a road test.

-- Perform another vehicle system test and correct any faults.
