Rear Axle, Multi-Link Suspension

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Torque Wrench 40-200Nm VAG 1332
• Engine/Gearbox Jack VAG 1383A
• Tensioning Strap T10038
• Locating Pins T10096

Removing the Subframe and Attachments 

-- Loosen the wheel bolts.

-- Raise the vehicle.

-- Remove the wheels.

-- Remove the brake calipers on both sides of the vehicle and hang on the body.

-- Coil Springs, Removing Installing .

-- Remove the rear muffler. Refer to [For engine(s) CPRA, CPKA, CPLA, CPPA] Description and Operation[For engine(s) CVCA] Description and Operation[For engine(s) CCTA, CBFA] Description and Operation[For engine(s) CBUA] Description and Operation .

Vehicles with Left Rear Level Control System Sensor -G76- 

-- Disconnect the harness connector -1-.

Continuation for All Vehicles 

-- Remove the bolt -arrow-.

-- Disconnect the parking brake cable -1- from the bracket -2-.

-- Push the lever on the brake caliper -2- in direction of -arrow-.

-- Disengage the parking brake cable -1- from the lever on the brake caliper -2-.

-- Squeeze the retainers -3-.

-- Remove the parking brake cable -1- from the bracket on the brake caliper -4-.

-- Pull the parking brake cable -1- out of the retainer -arrow A- on the bracket -2-.

-- Pull the parking brake cable -1- in direction of -arrow- out of the guide -arrow B- on the bracket -2-.

-- Disconnect the speed sensor connectors.

-- Unclip the speed sensor wire out of the bracket -1- -arrows-.

-- Unclip the brake lines -1- from the bracket -arrow- on the left side of the body.

-- Remove the clip -2- from the subframe -3- and loosen the brake hose from it.

-- Secure both sides of the vehicle on the hoist arms using Tensioning Strap T10038.

1. Tensioning Strap T10038

-- Secure the subframe. Refer to SUBFRAME, SECURING .

-- Mark the mounting bracket installation location on the body.

-- Remove bolts -arrows-.

-- Carefully lower the subframe with its components approximately. 2 cm.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and the heat shield -1-.

-- Remove the brake line -1- from the clips -arrows-.

-- Lower subframe with attachments.

Subframe with Components, Installing 

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

-- Perform an axle alignment. Refer to VEHICLE ALIGNMENT .

Tightening Specifications

• Refer to SUBFRAME OVERVIEW .
• Refer to OVERVIEW - WHEEL BEARING AND MULTI-LINK SUSPENSION .
• Refer to SUSPENSION STRUT, SHOCK ABSORBER AND SPRING OVERVIEW, MULTI-LINK SUSPENSION .
• Exhaust system bracket to subframe. Refer to [For engine(s) CPRA, CPKA, CPLA, CPPA] Description and Operation[For engine(s) CVCA] Description and Operation[For engine(s) CCTA, CBFA] Description and Operation[For engine(s) CBUA] Description and Operation ..
