Valve gear, servicing: Notes

NOTE: Cylinder heads that have cracks between valve seats or between valve seats and spark plug threads can be re-used without reducing service life, provided the cracks do not exceed a maximum width of 0.5 mm (0.020 in.).

The following list pertains to Fig 1.

  1. Bearing cap 
  2. 20 Nm (15 ft lb) 
  3. - Camshafts 
  4. Camshaft sprocket 
  5. Sensor wheel 
    • For Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor -G40-
    • When installing, contact surfaces on timing chain sprocket and sensor wheel must be dry
    • Removing and installing, see CAMSHAFTS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING 
  6. 100 Nm (74 ft lb) 
  7. Distributor drive 
    • Not applicable for USA/Canada
  8. - Cylinder head height 
    • Minimum height: -a- = 139.5 mm (5.492 in.)
  9. Cylinder head 
  10. Valves 
    • DO NOT recondition
    • Only lapping is permitted
    • Valve dimensions, See Valve Dimensions 
  11. Valve guide 
  12. Valve stem oil seal 
  13. Valve springs 
    • Removing and installing with cylinder head removed: use tool 2037
    • Removing and installing with cylinder head installed: VALVE STEM OIL SEALS, REPLACING
